Facing the Animal Tour Reports

(From RONSEE@ix.netcom.com):
Just wanted to comment on the show at the Birch Hill Nite Club in New Jersey. Great show! This was the first chance I had to see Yngwie in person. I'll never forget it. Good luck on the upcoming tour.

(From Clark Howell, USA):
I was able to meet the master himself at soundcheck at Toad's Place, in New Haven, CT. It was the most exciting day I've had in a long, long time! Yngwie and April were so incredibly nice. Yngwie took special care to autograph my CD's and spell my name correctly on each one. He was very friendly and made everyone who was around feel at ease, with a warm sense of humor and a sincerely caring attitude. Another fan who played guitar was there, and asked Yngwie to listen to a tape of his playing. Yngwie listened very carefully, and then gave his advice on the solo, and a lesson too! We sat at a table and just talked music for about half an hour. . . such dedication to his fans--I shall never forget that moment!

The show, of course, was fantastic. Mats Leven has a tremendous voice; he is definitely the right singer for the band; the best one of all. Yngwie hasn't lost a single bit of his enthusiasm and energy; he was as powerful a presence on stage as he was when I first saw him on tour in 1985. Jonas Ostman did a great job filling in as drummer. I took a friend who had never been to a heavy metal show before, and he was blown away. We were close enough to the stage to both get guitar picks that Yngwie threw into the crowd. What a night!

(From Fred Taylor, USA):
Hello, Yngwie! Just wanted to say that my wife and I traveled 300 miles to see you at Port Jefferson, NY and we were NOT disappointed, even though you were at the sound system problems. We went home the next day traveling on the same ferry and when we got home to Maine we put on the Trial by Fire video and watched the whole thing right after driving 5 hours. I've reoriented myself with every one of your albums since last weekend and am glad you're still going strong. Thanks for the great show, and I will definitely catch you on the back end of the tour.

(From cpsparts@erols.com, USA):
The boys had a rough night at Daytona's, power went out like four times. Yngwie kinda laughed it off; boy, has he mellowed. Mats was not happy, but they played their asses off and the crowd was loud. It wasn't enough for me, so I dragged my 36-year-old ass over to Jaxx [Springfield, VA]. One of the best decisions I made this year. Mats was happy, Yngwie kicked, but Baltimore is a louder crowd. We need a good rock club. Crowd responded well to "Facing the Animal" and "My Resurrection." Would have loved to hear "Sacrifice" and "End of My Rope," great songs. April looked sweet. I loved it all, thank you Yngwie.

(FromDarrell Sensing, USA):
I got to see Yngwie live in New Haven, CT, last weekend and just wanted to let everyone know YNGWIE LIVE still rules. "Facing the Animal" moved up about 10 notches to the top of my play list based on the strength of this performance. The guys totally kicked ass and there is NO MEANER GUITAR PLAYER alive.

If you like it loud, heavy, and clean, Yngwie is the man!!! Best wishes to the band as they head off to tear up the Far East. Get ready, Japan, a real treat is coming your way!!

(From Richard Anderson, USA):
I just got back from my two and a half day, 1,000 mile adventure. Thanks to the fan club, I saw YJM 3/25/98 in Riviera Beach [Baltimore, MD] and 3/26/98 at Jaxx in Springfield, VA. Everyone that I talked to knew about the concert from the fan club web page.

I really feel like Peter Rooth is the unsung hero, as he was not only the guitar tech, but the road manager as well. YJM was in very good spirits and introduced me to his wife April.

The first night at Daytona's was flawed only by the club's bad electrical system (the stage went dead three times during the set). Other than that, the guys blazed through a two hour set that left most people speechless and amazed. I was amazed at how calm he remained during the technical difficulties that were not his fault.

The second night was near perfection. Everything seemed to go right, the place was packed with enthusiastic Yngwie fans. He really seemed to enjoy playing to a house packed with loyal fans. Two hours went by like twenty minutes, as they tore through a very intense set. Thanks again for making it possible for me to make the two shows that I did. I'll send pictures soon.
