Unleash the Fury
From Adrian Milfy Dear Yngwie, I have just
bought your new album in Singapore while I was on holiday and now have all your
studio albums and what a brilliant album Unleash the Fury is, infact it just
blew me away.
I work backstage in the Assembly Rooms, Derby,
UK and have seen quite a few famous faces while working there and I know a
talent when i see it. I have always liked Hank Marvin, Jimi Hendrix and Joe
Satriani but I must confess that as far as I am concerned Yngwie you are the
best I have heard, ever since the first time I heard you I can't stop playing
your music.
The four instrumetals on the album FUGETTA,
PARAPHRASE, GUARDIAN ANGEL and MAGIC AND MAYHEM are brilliant especially
FUGETTA and PARAPHRASE which I can't seem to get out of my head as I keep
humming the tunes. As for the vocals on the album I can't fault any of them and
all praise should go to your band members too as they have done a really good
job. What I liked best of the vocal songs was CROWN OF THORNS, WINDS OF WAR,
REVELATION, CHEROKEE WARRIOR and UNLEASH THE FURY. Anyway Yngwie well done, I
only wish I could have met you when you appeared in ROCK PALACE in NOTTINGHAM
recently, apparently I was in Australia and Singapore at the time.
I believe you are working on a new Classical
Album like CONCERTO SUITE FOR ELECTRIC GUITAR AND ORCHESTRA IN E FLAT MINOR
OPUS 1, if that is so I shall look forward to its release.
Well, congratulations on a superb album Yngwie,
don't let anyone distract you from what you are doing, I like the way you think
for yourself, nowadays there are not a lot of artist that do that. Best Wishes,
Adrian
From Travis Smith,
Lancaster, PA I got the import of Yngwie's new album off of ebay.
I couldn't stand to wait for it to be released over here. When I first heard it
I thought... Yngwie is playing on the level of Marching Out, Trilogy. I really
got that feel from when I first listened to the disc. I saw him in Harrisburg
Pa last year at the Dragonfly club. It was the absolute best concert of my
life. The energy, power of the music, and Malmsteens precision playing were
amazing. I could go on n' on with a huge review about this or that...but its
not necessary. Yngwie has once again (as always) created a supreme masterpiece
with top notch playing. He is the original Bach of the electric guitar. All
others are cheap imitations. Can't wait to see you again in PA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yngwies #1 greatest fan.......... TS
From Jeffrey Bond
Hello all. It is definitely "Time to Rock!" I just received Yngwie's
new album from Japan - "Unleash the Fury" and it kicks ass. I haven't had the
new album long enough to pick any favorites - but I can tell you, you will not
be disappointed. Buy it ... It is one of best albums to date - from beginning
to end. Period!
From Allen
Turbeville First off must I say that Yngwie still holds the best
tone; this album has the same sound as Attack. Yngwie also sings a few
verses of his own and his technique has improved much. About half of the solos
are the usual "Yngwie shred", but with newer levels and the chord progressions
are surprising and not predictable. He does have a couple of instrumental
pieces that would blow anybody away that can appreciate real, good, music. I am
more pleased with ripping riffs and changes than the shredding solos. I don't
think it's an ego thing, that Yngwie sings, why shouldn't he? This album is so
fucking sick!!! It really is jawdropping just like any other album of his. I
have been a HUGE fan and I am so happy and pleased with it.
From nickdunn in Gold
Coast, Queensland, AUSTRALIA Just Do It Took a few listens,
but the ones you like straight away usually become tired quickly and others (as
with albums like this one) after a few spins become life-long friends.
Unfortunately a very biased opinion, but thumbs up from me anyway!
From Eddie in
Blackpool, England Wow... My favourite by Yngwie has always been
Vengeance, since I started listening to him a few years ago, but this album has
totally changed that, with songs such as Russian Roulette, Beauty & a
Beast, Exile. I'm going to see him in concert on the 30th and cannot wait to
see these songs live! Its an unbelievable album and a must buy for all
Malmsteen fans!
From yjmshred in
Atlanta GA, USA Unleashed the fury on my ears; this cd is
amazing. The singing is great, the playing is as usual phenomenal. This is an
improvment over the last cd Attack, which I liked. This is a must-have.
From Henk Jan
Steenvoort Yngwie unleashes his fury upon us again with this
great CD. After all these years his CDs still sound fresh, I guess his music is
timeless. Keep up the good work Yngwie, and don't change your style.
I
think in general this CD sounds a little more "modern" than his previous work,
the riffing is a little more simple, a good thing, because each song stands out
more, there is a lot of "airplay" material on this CD, radio and tv pay
attention! Of course there is also a lot of Insane guitarwork on it (would you
expect anything else??) Yngwie, I hope you will play this whole CD when you
visit The Netherlands (including all the instrumentals) , see you in June in
Amsterdam and Tilburg.
From Alex Ogston
Yngwie has pulled it out of the bag yet again!!! Great Music,
Great Production, Great Packaging (Universal Japan). The music is very heavy
which is fantastic, and the whole sound of the band is extremely tight. The
album has a hint of all Yngwie's work taken from all of his albums, and with
added spice of some new musical ventures; which has all been placed in the
melting pot and stirred!!!!! All bodes well for the world tour. Looking forward
to new albums, on the Universal Japan Label for many years to come!!! (Splendid
Job).
From Tim
I have Unleash the Fury (and every Yngwie cd) and it
absolutely ROCKS!!! I've listened to it over and over and I LOVE it! The songs
are very well written with great melody, rythyms, hooks, solos and lyrics. I
love the way this album seems to head in a different direction than the other
albums. There are ALL masterpiece cd's. Why listen to anything other than
Yngwie? I know I don't.
But these songs seem to have something really
unique, I can't describe in words. Maybe it's the harmony or the stories they
tell? Power and energy pour from this cd. It's that damn good. Top picks:
Locked and Loaded, Revolution, Cracking the Whip, Winds of War (very mysterious
eeriness to it), Bogeyman, Beauty and a Beast, Cherokee Warrior, Let the Good
Times Roll, Exile, Russian Roulette, Magic and Mahem, Unleash too of course.
Another great job by Yngwie and the crew. |

From Javier Iglesias
Palomo UUUUUUUUAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH. It was amazing!!!!!!
Since Eclipse album I´ve seen Yngwie all times that he came to Madrid, but
the show at Macumba was very incredible. The sound was very great, and the
performance was very special. 2 hours of show, where I enjoyed hearing: rising
force, never die, masquerade, DON'T LET IT END, demon driver, dreaming, far
beyond...,baroque and roll, mini TRILOGY SUITE , boogey man, i´m a
viking, YOU DON'T REMEMBER I'LL NEVER FORGET, (air in G ), black star, gates of
babylon, and I´ll see the light ....., among others. Yngwie and the band
are very fresh on stage, and I think that Yngwie plays in the best form in
years. Thank you,Thank you,Thank you,Thank you,Thank you,Thank you,Thank
you!

AUSTRIA &

Another review from a
Polish fan: Almost a month has passed and the feedback from the
Polish fans is still so immense. Why? First of all we've all been waiting for
Yngwie to perform in Poland for so long and second.....this was a truly
amazing, awesome, incredible mind blowing experience. I have been to dozens of
live shows incl. Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Whitesnake, Brian May - all great and
exciting artists but Yngwie's show is definitely one of my favourite. You call
me crazy but I traveled all the way from Poland to Vienna and back to see
Yngwie, Doogie and the band twice in just 3 days! So this was really something,
especially that it was my birthday so I made myself a really beautiful present
:)
However, it was all worth it! as the shows in
Poland and Austria were totally different. I still don't know how I managed to
make it: a sleepless night on a bus from Katowice to Vienna, the day of city
strolling and straight away to the show in Marshall's Live Cafe club (owned by
Planet Music company). The club was away from the city centre and as soon as I
got there I saw something like 10 or 15 people hanging around waiting for the
doors to open. I was shocked to see how small this venue was and that the
people were so few- I though "This is gonna be a private show or what...???" I
could not really imagine a concert there... no security guards, no checking of
anything (I have a memory of concerts in Poland where you cannot even bring a
camera in). The club was hidden under ground so I felt like descending to hell
or something when I showed my ticket and was directed to step downwards ...
just to see a dimly lit room where I couldn't even see where the "proper" stage
was. The show started at 8.00 p.m. with the local supporting band Codex (I
guess Codex guitarist also made a reference here, greetings to you guys!!!, I
wish you could see the Polish audience here heeee :)
I was standing right before the platform where
the band was supposed to perform. I guess there were no more than 200-300 of us
flocking in front of the stage, maybe more... this was a really tiny place....
the first sharp sounds of powerful "Rising Force" was heard and from behind the
stage which was hardly visible due to the thick smoke .... emerged Maestro and
the rest of the band appeared soon. I held my breath for a moment, my heart
stopped and I knew this was going to be a wonderful and special evening. And it
was!. I must say Austrian fans are very well behaved :D, if you Polish know
what I mean, which was good for me as I could see every band member 1 to 1 and
enjoy myself to the full. The atmosphere in Music Planet was really intimate
and feel-at-home really, though Austrian fans are a bit more "reserved" in
showing their emotions ;) so getting them to jump or clap their hands for
longer than 2 minutes without pausing was something virtually impossible to do.
But we were all having fun anyway-though I had to look a bit weird to them,
jumping all the time with my hands up, shouting and taking dozens of pics.
Despite little size of the club the sound of Yngwie's guitar(s) was clear,
delightful and touching and Doogie's contact with fans just great.! They played
the same material as in Poland - even in the same order (You know Yngwie - the
perfectionist) but for me it was all new as I didn't know what to expect and
the more delighted I was to hear Yngwie's classics such as "Demon Driver", "You
won't remember..." and "Dreaming" over which I went totally crazy and extatic,
unfortunately our fellas from Austria are not so good at singing either..
(sorry folks!) but I was happy anyway and sang my own way. I just wished I had
a Polish flag with me or something-but I'd thought this would be a regular
concert hall and no one from the band would see me anyway...

Yngwie looked relaxed and in good mood that
night, very close to the audience playing just over our heads wanting us to
make this show together - the crowd flocked bending from left to right as
Yngwie moved along the stage almost letting us touch his precious guitar. Music
Planet was all like a dream to me, a dreamy, dark, very atmospheric place
saturated with powerful and familiar sounds... a dream coming true but I didn't
know that the best is yet to come.
Luckily, Katowice is only 10 miles from my
hometown so I had plenty of time to have a quick sleep and rest after last
night's show and night drive form Vienna. The show in Poland was held in
Gornoslaskie Centrum Kultury (Upper-silesian Municipal House of the Culture)
strange as the name seems... this is a kind of theatrical scene with the seat
rows so after what I had seen in Vienna I could hardly imagine Polish fans
seating neatly along the stage and clapping their hands like in some opera hall
:) I and my friend arrived 30 minutes before the show and had an opportunity to
meet Doogie hanging around in the hall and signing autographs, how fortunate!!!
(I am also a long time Rainbow fan). The time has come and everybody was
chanting Yngwie! Yngwie! with even more excitement and restlessness as seen in
Marshall Club and the moment the band appeared to the loud cheers of everybody,
we rose from our seats, shy at the beginning as if not sure what to do with the
seats behind us... the crowd grew wilder with every minute and heat up by well
known tunes only to be cooled down by longer brilliant guitar solos generously
served by the Master of ceremony. At the moments like these everyone, even
those glued to the front of the stage, stood almost motionless and soundless
listening with attention not to miss a single pick and gazing at Maestro
playing with the strings with lightness and flair.
I myself had more chance to observe Yngwie and
other band members playing with more focus on music as I had my real serving of
madness 2 days before. Unfortunately there were some technical problems
somewhere in the middle but this resulted in the show being a bit longer that
planned, I guess. Doogie also did a great job, very energetic... he was almost
taken aback by our inexhaustible enthusiasm and lively response to everything
that was happening on stage, which resulted in as a series of " you are really
loud!", and "you rock'n roll!" shouts. As the show continued he was getting
more friendly with the first time Yngwie audience. On singing "You don't
remember..." Doogie held one of the girls standing closest by hand... We really
must have made impression as the show in Katowice came as an entry into his web
tour diary:) The encore was much longer that the one in Austria but we
undoubtedly deserved that !!! the first and only show in Poland and we did 100%
as an audience or even more having so little room for manoeuvre. The month has
passed and I am still totally overwhelmed by this experience, writing this only
a few steps away from the venue where I had my marvelous, magical moments with
Yngwie and the band. I can only hope that we may take Yngwie's "See you soon!",
spoken before he went off the stage, for granted.
KATOWICE,
POLAND
From Rafal
Kordus June the 18th - the day that many of Polish
guitar-admirers have been waiting (many many years!) impatiently for. "Here you
are Yngwie at last!" could be heard in front of the concert hall before the
performance. Most of fans had travelled hundreds of miles to see Maestro live
on stage. Gornoslaski Osrodek Kultury, Katowice (Poland) gathered about one
thousand people. The atmosphere was electric. Since 9.00 P.M. (the planned
start time) tension was mounting...During the 15 minutes - great warm-up:
"MALMSTEEN, MALMSTEEN!" At 9.15 all the lamps went out and it got dark in the
hall. Nobody did mind about it being sure that WE WOULD SEE THE LIGHT TONIGHT!
All of a sudden, God entered the stage in the
glare of spotlight! I felt shivers sent down my spine. The whole hall was on
its feet never to sit down again. Since that moment full focus on Yngwie, we
were ready to rock! Powerfull introduction in the form of RISING FORCE and
everything was clear - it would be unforgettable and remarkable night. What
happened next was a real feast for ears and spirit. At the sound of lively
NEVER DIE, exalted DREAMING and beautiful YOU DON'T REMEMBER I'LL NEVER FORGET
we were just enchanted singing along with Dougie. Yet the most surprising out
of set-list were such tracks as I'M A VIKING and DON'T LET IT END from albums
past! When the time had come for masterpieces as FAR BEYOND THE SUN (though
several technical problems it went cool), BAROQUE & ROLL and BLACK STAR the
hall was buzzing with acclaim, totally! Yngwie played as if the guitar were an
extension oh his body! Some were standing dead being completely amazed as the
guitarist showed off his heavenly skills. Yep, the fingerboard almost burst
into flames...
UNLEASH THE FURY was still undiscovered for us
so far, unfortunately Yngwie played only one new - THE BOGEYMAN. Let us wait
for new release soon! Other ones like awsome TRILOGY SUITE or MASQUERADE played
with panache were also great show Malmsteen regaled us that night with. We
could hear also plenty of incredible concert solos included Svalberg's
keyboard, Cervino's bass and Johansson's drums!.There were short breaks where
maestro took and instrument changes throughout the show, were a lot of picks
caught by fervent audience members as well! Fans lapped up vigorously every
single word Yngwie had said towrads them! As we supposed the end crowned the
work - you know what, don't you? Yeah! mind-blowing I'LL SEE THE LIGHT!!!
Miraculous night... And what disappointed us
was only the lack of photos with Yngwie and no autographs as well, but this
detail is nothing compared with an experience we'd got! To tell the truth there
is nothing to help me to say about all the impressions, it was really
unspeakable joy everyone should see! Fleeting dream. The dream I will never
forget! We, Polish people, are convinced and know for sure - YNGWIE JOHANN
MALSMTEEN HAS NO EQUAL! (looking forward to Your return Yngwie!)
From Dominik
Skladanowski I feel the same about the show in Katowice as
Stephen's review before. It was very good to hear pieces from the older albums.
Thanks for "You Don't Remember..." - my favourite. It was amazing. As usual it
was very impressive to see Maestro on the stage (first time I saw Yngwie's show
in Prague in 2001). Band started just after 19 o'clock. From Mr. Malmsteen's
Marshalls wall "Rising Force" riffs have flown to the crowd. A big surprise,
but very kind, was tracks from "Marching Out" - my first Yngwie's album.
Concert was pretty long. Almost 2 hours. I hope Yngwie will visit Poland more
often. There was one more reason why the show was unique for me... See in the
photo section :) Finally, 1 month after my 30 birthday anniversary, I met
Maestro. Regards, Dominik
From
Stephan On 18th June I traveled 600 miles to Katowice to see
Yngwie live at Górnoslaskie Centrum Kultury. As expected the gig was
worth any single mile! Who is in the comfortable position to play killers like
Rising Force and Never Die right at the beginning of a show. It was amazing to
hear I Am a Viking, Don't Let it End and Demon Driver played live again!
Unfortunately he only played The Bogeyman from the new album, but this might be
due to the fact UTF has not been released in Europe so far. Beside Yngwie's
awesome playing I also liked the performance of Rising Force members. Patrik
and Joakim played great solo spots. I think Doogie's vocals are perfect for
Yngwie's music. I hope there will be another tour in Europe later this year
after the new album has been released!
BOLOGNA,

From
Joana My name is Joana and I'm a fan of Yngwie for many years! I
just went to the Gods of Metal festival in Italy to see Yngwie's
performance...GREAT!!! I thought it might be a good idea to send one photo I
made during the gig of Yngwie to his official website! So here it is! [note:
see pic in photo column at right.] Wish you all the best, Joana
VIENNA,

From Michael
Buchbinder Dear Webmaster, I am sending you a picture of the
Maestro and myself taken backstage before the concert in Vienna on the 16th of
June 2005 - I would be very honoured if you´ll post the picture on
yngwie.org! [note: pic is in the photo column] My name is Michael
Buchbinder, I am the guitarist of the band "Codex" which played as the
Maestro´s support act at the Vienna concert. I was overwhelmed by the
kindness of Mr. Malmsteen and his band towards Codex and myself - opening for
Yngwie Malmsteen and meeting him was more than a dream come true. Yours
sincerely, Michael
GOTHENBURG,
SWEDEN
From Matias Haug
Solstad I travelled for six hours from Norway, just to see my
hero number 1, Yngwie Malmsteen. When I first came to Gothenburg I rushed down
to the concert venue and talked with Yngwie's bandmembers for a while. I met
two other guys who also were waiting for Yngwie. Yngwie was very busy, but
after 5 hours of waiting he showed up for a picture. But it was not boring to
wait, because his bandmembers are extremely great guys. Nice, funny and
down-to-earth! The concert was surprisingly good, and it was pretty cool that
he played so many old songs. Dreaming, Far Beyond The Sun, I'll See The Light
Tonight and As Above, So Below was some of the goodies. The sound was good,
though the vocals was a bit low and Dougie's voice did not reach up to the
highest notes allthough he has one of the best voices in metal. My rating of
the concert 9.5 outta 10!
TILBURG (THE NETHERLANDS)
From Mark
Devriendt I can send you also pics from the second concert in
the Netherlands , at 013 Tilburg. That concert was much better ! Bigger venue ,
better sound ,more lights and a clear sound. There i could also hear "Demon
Driver" for the first time live , also "Cherokee Warrior" !!!! And at the end
touching the strings of Yngwie's guitar was a blast !!! So ..now up to the
third time , maybe Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium...that's nearby , so,.....
Hugs ! Mark .
From Ton Savelkoul
My brother and I were yesterday in 013 in Tilburg. We both wear
an Attack! t-shirt. We met Patrick Johanson outside 013, he was looking for a
shop where he could buy a razor. His beard began to irritate. It was nice
talking with him. I already bought Unleash The Fury from Japan in march, so I
asked him if they could play more songs from the new album. Why did they play
only Revolution and Cherokee Warrior? Also I bought a few Japanese-version
albums in Thailand. I'm proud to have the rare Collection DVD from Japan. Cost
me 56 euro to get it. Yesterday I bought 2 t-shirts. But most luck we had in
front of the stage, my brother and I both caught a plektrum, so we both have
one. It was again a great concert, with all the great classics. Only one thing:
Yngwie should not 'disturb' Dougie White. I'm very glad he has Dougie in the
band.
AMSTERDAM (THE NETHERLANDS)
From Denis Scieur from Brussels, Belgium
AMSTERDAM ON FIRE !!!!! Amsterdam was on fire... What a show! What a bloody
Sunday!! UNLEASH THE FURY... Yes, he did! When Yngwie cries Its
time to rock!!, be ready! It was absolutely awesome! Yngwie seems to take
so much pleasure... Two hours of pure happiness!!!! People were crazy! A
revolution, once again... Thank you so much Maestro, well never forget!
From Mark Devriendt
Just home after a great concert from Yngwie Malmsteen and his
band . Finally i got the chance to be in a pic with Yngwie ! And that after
seeing Yngwie live in concert for the tenth time..... Too bad they only played
1 song from the new album , but Revolution sounds very good ! Can't wait for
July 4th .Thanks to Doogie , Patrik and Joachim also for signing some CD's.
YNGWIE RULES
PARIS (FRANCE)
From Frederic Ralet
Last saturday night in Paris, yngwie set the house on fire !
Great, great performance ! Lots of old songs, like Dreaming, I Am a Viking, and
DON'T LET IT END : yes ! but only 2 songs from Unleash the Fury. I know it will
be released 4th july in France (and maybe for the rest of Europe, I guess ).
Still, Revolution is a good live song. Poor yngwie had sound problems during
Far Beyond the Sun. but took it with a good sense of humour . so, from the
biggest French fan that I am : THANK YOU , THANK YOU ,THANK YOU. it was a
really long time for French fans to wait for a new live show from the greatest
livin' guitar player of the world ! 7 years, if I 'm not wrong !!! So, believe
me that night was really SPECIAL for us and him. the audience was HOT like
never before in Paris.
MANCHESTER (UK)
From Alex Ogston
The Manchester gig on 3rd June was Yngwie playing at his most
fluent. The maelstrom of music that came forth from the concert was top class.
Yngwie unleashed his fury on the night (watch those strings move)!!!! And his
fellow Rising Force Band members did as well. Dougie's vocals are powerful
(some wind in that chest)!!! Patrick's drums are awesome (watch those sticks
fly)!!! Joakim's Keys are spectacular (ebony & ivory tickled)!!! And Mick's
bass is heavy (stringtastic).
Some magical musical journeys took place
on the night, only interrupted by occasional sound blips and one major power
failure at the end, robbing us of the Black Star encore!!!! My overall
highlight was Yngwie and his classical number which was a nice surprise from
the heavy rock. The other major highlight was the Haunting Keyboard solo which
included a classical piece, which was used here in the UK for the title music
for Sherlock Holmes Hound of the Baskervilles!!!! I hope this can be
incorporated into Yngwie's next album, as I think it would go well with a major
piece of music!!! I hope that Yngwie comes back to the UK soon, and I look
forward to seeing him if he does.
From Jim Baker
I have just come back from Manchester with my two children
(Sam's painted Yngwie jacket won from the Fan Club was an absolute hit at the
UK gigs and SO many people wanted to know where he got it from - thanks again)
and I have to say that my children (and myself) found it to be the best gig
experience ever.
I can't express my gratitude
enough to the whole band, but more particularly Doogie, Patrick (who both spent
some considerable time to chatting to us at the Wolverhampton and Manchester
venue - Doogie even brought the three of us drinks out of the venue as we
waited), April (April took Yngwie's 'two youngest' fans to meet him, we were so
appreciative of this as Yngwie had to cut short the encore as his amps blew and
must have been so deflated - the gig and crowd were incredible at Manchester
and it was such a shame not to get the full encore), Denise (who took Sam and
Jess all over to make sure they met all of the band - it was just fantastic of
her and Sam and Jess are still on cloud nine now - Denise is Jess's new best
mate ;O) ) and last but no means least Yngwie - he was obviously disappointed
with the technical problems, but the time and attention he took with Sam and
Jess was fantastic they were so awestruck!- he was thrilled that we loved
Cherokee Warrior and pointed out it was the first time it was ever played live
- he said he even forgot some of the words - it truly was a night we will never
forget.
ROCK CITY (UK)
From Becky
Rowell I was at your show last night (1st June) at Rock City in
Nottingham and felt a need to write to you.
I am a 32 year old,
married, mother of three wonderful children (George 7, Matilda 6 and Osborn 3),
I have enjoyed listening to your music since being given a copy of Rising Force
as a present many years ago. When I saw the on the Rock City gig guide you were
playing I insisted we get tickets. My husband was sure I wouldn't enjoy the
show as much as I expected to, as I do not play any instruments etc. However,
he was proved wrong! We both were completely blown away, it was a fantastic
night.
I haven't written to anyone in this was before, I do not class
myself as a 'fan' of any band or musician, I just
know what I like, if that makes sense. But, wow, I expected the playing to be
amazing (and it was) but I hadn't realised how charismatic you are and what a
complete show man you can be. It was just wonderful. I have a belief in life
that people are very quick to complain, but can be slow to aknowledge the good,
so I just wanted to say a really big 'thank you'. Yours, Bec
From Steve playloud33
This was awesome!! This was the best I have ever seen Yngwie,
truly amazing. Everything for me was perfect, if the band keeps on like this
they will be the just unstoppable!!!!!!!!! I met Patrick before the gig and
gave him directions to get some food and got him to sign my UTF sleeve.
Then after the gig we all hung out by the tour bus and the rest of the
band eventually came out and did some more signing. Yngwie looked totaly
knackered and went straight into the bus so Dougie kindly took things in for
Yngwie to sign for us all. I had to feel a little sorry for Dougie cuz he was
missing Blackadder on the bus TV :)
What an amazing 3 days it's been, I
got nearly 200 pictures, a fully signed UTF sleeve, met loads of cool people
and I'm really happy.
WOLVERHAMPTON (UK)
From Robert
Knowles Dear Yngwie: Last week I had the pleasure of seeing you
live in Wolverhampton - I think you were absolutely brilliant - not just a
stunning guitar player, but a great showman too. You really work hard and the
crowd - which was a bit luke-warm at first - rightly warmed to you and the band
and you gave us a brilliant show.
I was so impressed with your
performance, Yngwie. You are a brilliant musician - I suspect the very best
player in the world in your genre. I will seriously consider making some
purchases from your back catalogue.
I was on the front row in
Wolverhampton and was witnessing something I could never do even if I practiced
every day for the next forty years. Yngwie's playing is astonishing. On the
recent G3 DVD with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, the rockers in our house agreed
that the most stunning moments were Yngwie's blistering opening to Voodoo
Child. He played exactly the kind of thing that it is every rock player's dream
to play - but never could! With best wishes for the remainder of the tour With
great admiration, Rob
From Steve
I just got back from the Wolverhampton gig and wow it was
perfect - the sound, the energy was all spot on! Ok there was a couple of blips
but who cares, its only the 3rd night. The set list was the same as Hammersmith
but without 'I am a viking' and 'As above, so below'. It is also a pity that
Dragonland are not supporting at all the gigs cos they really rocked at
Hammersmith and are far better than the two cheesy pub bands we had to put up
with tonight. Why do these venues do this to us........ Anyways, I'm very tired
and I'm going Nottingham tomorrow/tonight for my 3rd and last gig. Oh also I
got over 160 pictures so far, so I'll post the better ones and we can all check
out Yngwie's funky sideburns. Do you know what time it is? It's time to
ROCK!!!!!!!!
HAMMERSMITH
(UK)
From Anne Osborne Wow! What an amazing
night! This was the first time I saw Yngwie live and I will never forget what I
saw and heard from my 3rd row seat. I was especially impressed with the
classical references -- J.S.Bach (Air on a G String, Violin Concerto in A
minor), Paganini (one of the violin concertos), Mussorgsky (Night on the Bare
Mountain). I was playing air violin to all these and more (sorry to anyone I
might have elbowed as a result of this). I had a singing conversation with
Yngwie at one point when he noticed that I was singing along to his guitar,
even when he went up to the top E, so he would keep doing runs upto that note
and then stop and look at me like he wanted me to continue singing that E. That
was the best moment of the night for me. I also caught 2 picks and my friend
got a bit of the wood and one of the strings from the broken guitar that Yngwie
threw into the crowd at the end. I was expecting more songs from the new album,
though. Maybe he could do another tour after the album release... I'll send my
photos soon. Rock on!!!!!!!!
From Bradley
Howard Hey there. I went to the gig last nite. It was
brillllllllllllllliant. Oh so much to say, so I'll be concise by just listing
my most clear memories: most people were wearing jeans. Many looked like Yngvay
with black shirts on etc. Some t-shirts I saw on people were of Megadeth,
Slayer, Maiden, Yngwie-Eclipse/War2End AllWars/YngwieWho?, Children of Bodom,
Guns and Roses, Velvet Revolver. Merchandise on sale: UTF t-shirt and a Rising
Force album with nothing on the back at £40 a throw. baseball cap of UTF,
head scarf, thong, poster of Yngwie on his black Ferrari, 10 and a silver chain
and pendant for 15. I bought nowt - I'm choosy about what I wear u see, but the
UTF t-shirt would have been a pleasing buy for me.
I got a beer with my mate, then went in for
Dragon Land for the support act. Akin to Stratovarius; power metal, u know the
sort, they were good but nowt special and we've all seen it before, but the
lead guitarist was ace and it was adrenalising. I went out had a fag after
about a 6 song set - the lead singer started shouting "Yngvay!" to start a
chant at the end but now one really bit. People were sitting down at this point
and I had waves of melancholy reflecting on my own.. Surely Yngwie would save
the day. Got back just in time to take my place - h32 so close to the front.
His marshalls loomed up, Pearl drum kits, the keyboard stand - an equipment
case on stage with worn Swedish, Ferrari and Malmsteen stickers on
it.
Chanting began for Yngwie - loud, gettin really
loud - I was givin asll - we heard Yngway licking out but couldn't see him
before he comes bursting onto stage with the anthem Rising Force, which with
the co2 filled my senses. The concert lifted me to cloud 9-my first. the
realisation of a dream-to see my only real idol in front of me for the first
time after years of worship of his albums. He looked mean - super slick, sexy
(although I'm straight) his gold chains sparkled out, godlike, his demeanour
setting him as one of the greats. Some of me faves were there -titles e.g.
Seventh Sign to which the crowd joined in at the end, 3 of
Attack- Rise Up,Attack, Baroque & Roll. 2 off UTF - including
Reveloution which noone really responded to but the album has only just come
out. Dreaming was played, which I love, to which I held up my Zippo-that was me
if u were there-I was the only one I think...
Oops! Patrik missed one of Yngwie's cues on
stage and the lead singer was lacking major flair but minor complaints compared
to brilliance. Keyboardist did a solo part which I loved- classical renditions
which blew me and the audience away. Patrik -a drum solo- Yngwie wanted the
attention back and took up the throne once again. 2 guitars were decimated. The
worried backstage support looked on as one guitar had its head severed before
being given wings into some lucky bastard's hands in the audience. Hehehe.
Picks were being slung out in abandon. I thought I'd never get one, BUT THEN I
CAUGHT A GLIMMER OF LIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AS IF A PICK HAD FLOWN IN FRONT OF
ME....TRIED TO SEE IT BELOW ME-COULDN'T SEE IT-I'D WAIT TO THE END, HOPING NO
ONE WOULD GET IT- I SO BADLY WANTED ONE. WELL IN THE END I SPOTTED IT ON THE
FLOOR- I GOT ONE! SHOWED IT OFF AFTER TO SEVERAL- ONE JAPANESE GUY TOOK A PHOTO
OF IT. I'll frame with his ticket. Anyway, I shouted my heart out. Yngwie
slipped over at one point and his technician (the older chap) winced with a
mixture of a grimace and fake smile. We all smiled together though. Brilliaint
concert- brilliant. To reiterate-a dream come true!!!
From Eddie Hadfield
I emailed you a while ago asking Yngwie to tour round England,
and a few months later he did. I went to see him yesterday at Hammersmith! It
was so awesome!!!! Thank you soo much!!!!! "yngwie who? YNGWIE FUKING MALMSTEEN
THATS WHO!" Ed! - Malmsteen hyper fan!
From
Mat Well after reading all these great reports id add mine too, I
went by car to hammersmith for the first time and it took a while to find it
but parking was close, and we waited outside, could slightly hear yngwie
soundchecking , then we went off to get some food.
Returning the queue
had started to form and we queued before finally being let in, a bit of a stall
though as we were all stuck in the foyer while dragonland were still
soundchecking. I was pleased just how close my ticket was , row e which was 5
rows from the front and on the right hand side staring straight at the 10
marshall amps heads and 10 cabs. The support band were fun, they were from
sweden and really tried to get the crowd excited to see Yngwie, but it was a
tough climb for them as they didnt have the best sound, and a bit of an
unexcited crowd. Two people near me , i think maybe southamerican were very
excited by them and head banged the whole time. Then there was a pause for a
while, and i went and brought a poster from the foyer. Dragonland were out in
the foyer shaking hands and having a chat which was nice. The 19-year old
guitarist playing a similar guitar to Mattias IA Eklundh was very very good.
Then the smoke started testing , and thomas (Vai's old tech) came out
and started setting up stuff, getting some cheers. The crowd then started
getting really excited with chants of Yngwie ! Yngwie! Yngwie! and the smoke
started and off stage you could hear him running through some blistering scale
licks. And on he and the whole band came. The setlist written though not
nessisaraly perfect order thats right, but it misses out the fact he played
fugetta as well from unleash the fury. It was an incredible show, he stands at
the front the whole time , and hes looking very fit, downing bottles of evian
and swapping guitars at a furious rate he gives an incredible show. D.White the
signer was very well natured , talking quite a bit , and the keyboard solo was
great fun for once, playing some movie theme or classical piece , i couldnt
place a name to it , maybe someone will rememeber.
Picks went flying at
a furious rate and thomas had to keep topping them up, his mastery over his
instrument is incredible , you can clearly see this is a man who has dedicated
his life to his craft. When they came out for encore to play blackstar the
crowd went crazy. Afterwards i hung around to clear my head before a long drive
and to see if he might come out for some signing. His wife came out and asked 3
children to come back, which while some people got annoyed they were so young i
thought really that was nice. A Fab Day!
