Magnum Opus Reviews
|
Congratulations to "Genius" Yngwie ("You are GOD!") for another brilliant album. I play guitar myself and for me he is the only guitarist in the world who can bring together both melody and hair-raising technique in such perfection. (Frank Fojtik, Georgenberg, Germany) Yngwie's "Magnum Opus" is really incredible. I think it's one of his best albums. My favorite song is "Fire in the Sky." (Benjamin Mallet, Clermant-FD, France) You arrogant piece o' Swedish trash, who do you think you are thinking you're Jimi Hendrix. You are not even close to being BLACK. Words cannot describe how pathetic Yngwie's music is and the fact that anyone would waste their time worshipping him is just plain stupid! (Jeanne Deslippe, jdeslip@uwindsor.ca) The new release is excellent and surpasses anything he has done in the past. I think the CD should carry a warning sticker saying "PLAY AT MAXIMUM VOLUME FOR BEST RESULTS." (Peter Stillwell, Kent, England) Yngwie: Senaste plattan suger! (Bjorn Hagglund, bjorn.hagglund@aftonbladet.se) Magnum Opus is "Javligt, helt suverant bra!!" (Peter Ostros, Stockholm, Sweden) I picked up the new opus yesterday. "Vengeance" is unquestionably the best f**ing some his majesty has ever constructed. Get healthy and come back to the Midwest. (Stephanie Phelan, QKZD95A@prodigy.com) OH MY GOD. This has to be his best album yet; god knows how he keeps coming up with the goods, but I for one am glad he does. (Craig Reynolds, Essex, England) The Japanese still believe in the myth about the "live forever" guitarist, the perfectionist who moves with the speed of light. Beyond that, Yngwie has not much to deliver. The songs are from the hardrock Stone Age, and he has become reduced to a boring instrumentalist.(Martin Carlsson, Expressen, August 25, 1995) Once again, the new album inspires me and makes me wonder why people in Canada and the USA don't popularly accept Yngwie's music. He is one of the few true musicians who combines melody with metal and makes a powerful musical statement. Anyone who says you don't play with feeling is f**ing deaf! Keep up the good work, and maybe give Mats room to play more, too. See you in Canada in '96! (George Kirk, kirk1740@mach1.wlu.ca) My local radio station (KBLZ 106.3, blaze@inetnebr.com) has been playing the new Yngwie song "No Love Lost." They have a contest called Crank It or Yank It every night, and Yngwie has been CRANKED the last 3 nights. I'm pumped that I can hear Yngwie on the radio in this age of alternative crap music. (Steve Shumake, Lincoln, NE, USA) Magnum Opus smokes. No words can describe how amazing this CD is. The vocals are fantastic, and it's satisfying to hear more varied sides of Mike Vescera's talent. This CD excites me almost as much as the original "Rising Force." (Hal Lloyd, San Antonio, TX, USA) Magnum Opus Rocks!! I think it's his best to date, and I love his guitar sound, almost a tribute to "Odyssey". I always wondered why he changed from that sound. The new drummer Shane Galaas and bassist Barry Sparks play extremely well together. This album just needs a little exposure and it will fly, sure is a fresh break from all of the 3-chord grunge bulls**t.(Patrick Burdett, burdett@primenet.com) I don't know about you, but I feel that Yngwie should have worked a bit more on the songs. Well, Vengeance and Fire in the Sky sound great, but the others...hmm, I don't know. (Stratos, karaiw@hni.uni-paderborn.de) Every song on Magnum Opus overflows with power and emotion--characteristics grossly absent from today's music scene. I am also a big fan of Michael Vescera. Mike's powerful, soulful delivery and his strong songwriting are an excellent asset to the band. Magnum Opus has been #1 on my past 2 reports to College Music Journal and I don't see it leaving the top 5 anytime soon.
