(From Richard
& Carol Anderson, USA): It was well worth the 1,000
mile road trip to see Yngwie live in Atlanta (The Edge) on August 24, 1995. It
was a wonderful opportunity to see "Magnum Opus" live before a large world tour
even started. Yngwie was all smiles as he and his amazing band blazed through a
set of new material as well as lots of my old favorites. After watching Yngwie
J. Malmsteen perform live,, I usually wonder how he can possibly get any
better, but year after year he outdoes his previous effort. Thank you,
Yngwie!
(From Richard
Fuller, USA): I went to see Yngwie in Ft. Lauderdale in
Sept. '95. As a fan of his music and speed-picking abilities on tape and CD, I
was blown away when I saw him perform live for the first time. It was like
nothing I have ever seen before. I was engulfed in a high entertainment level
without a big stage and big lights as in other concerts I've seen. Yngwie
proved that you don't need that to perform a wonderful show.
(From Tsuyoshi
Wakasa, Japan): I saw your show in Nagoya on Sept. 19. I
was knocked over by your music, stage actions, and the audience's excitement. I
especially enjoyed "Crash and Burn." This is one of the strongest songs you've
ever written. Also "Seventh Sign," "Never Die," and "Forever One" have become
your anthems.
(From Yuka
Matsumoto, Japan): I had a very good time with Yngwie in
Hiroshima, Osaka, and Kyoto. Each show made me tremble as I was completely
drawn into his world. His songs mean so much to me. But I'm sorry he did not
play "Hiroshima Mon Amour" in Hiroshima; he played only its intro. Please play
it next time! At the Hard Rock Cafe in Osaka I got autographs of the band
members. Mike and Shane were very kind to me and I had pictures taken with
them.
(From Rika Ohira,
Japan): I went to concerts at Osaka on Sept. 15 and 16.
They played almost all the songs from Magnum Opus and some from The Seventh
Sign. I felt how proud Yngwie is of these excellent works. They played "Burn"
last, a very good choice! Yngwie is so cool, as usual. Thank-you to Yngwie and
the band, because they were the best show I've seen in the 7 years of going to
his concerts. I can say from my heart that I was deeply moved by these great
shows. All Japanese fans will always love and support Yngwie Malmsteen and his
music!
(From Mark
Deavall, England): The London show was very special indeed.
Yngwie was absolutely fantastic and very hyped up. The fans could sense this
and were wild, and this made Yngwie raise his performance even more. Each band
member was outstanding and we all had a lot of fun. Mike's voice is very good
and the new songs came across well. The fans love Mike and we even passed him
above our head in front of the stage! I was also very pleased with the new
drummer. I hope Yngwie comes back to London soon!
(From Craig
Reynolds, England): On November 5, the London Astoria 2 had
a visit from God. This had to be the best gig I have ever seen Yngwie play and
I've seen a few. From the first note to the last bow, Yngwie proved that there
is none finer.
(From Damian
Mudge, England): I saw Yngwie in London and thought it was
excellent, especially when he did a rendition of the Monty Python's Flying
Circus theme. The critics of "Kerrang" gave the gig a poor review, then less
than a month later they are saying how wonderful Joe Satriani was! Well, I was
there at both and don't know how they can say one was good and the other
wasn't!! I just cannot understand their ignorance.
(From Frank
Doorhof, Holland): First, Utrecht. Marvelous! The concert
was like I like them, played with fire & fury. Maybe a little bit too much
instrumentals (but I liked it). Really great! Second, Heino. Disappointing
after Utrecht because the venue was very small with poor heating and very bad
lighting and sound. However, the concert was again great. The band was very
tight, and played with the fire I like.
(From Frans
Goossen, Holland): I went there (Utrecht) with my best
friend Johan, and we eagerly awaited Yngwie. Then suddenly he stood there: The
Maestro! "Vengeance" and "No Love Lost" were played flawlessly and with such
intensity, you could feel shivers down your back! Johan threw me on stage and I
landed 3 steps away from Yngwie! I grabbed my chance and touched him, so I
could let him know how much he means to me. Then on Nov. 24, we went to the
concert in Amsterdam: Again, "Vengeance," "No Love Lost," "Fire in the Sky,"
and especially "Voodoo" were the favorites, and I felt the same intensity as
was the case in Utrecht." Yngwie's compositions are getting stronger and the
unbelievable expressive way he plays them fills us all with inner
joy!
(From Jan-Kees
Logmans, Holland): Yngwie let us witness the soundcheck (at
Utrecht). Later that evening Yngwie and the band gave a devastating show!
Meeting the Maestro was really a dream come true-- more power to
him.
(From Vidar
Tollefsen, Norway): At the 20th November, I saw Yngwie live
in Stockholm. He was magnificent. After the show, the other band members came
out and talked to the fans. I didn't expect them to be so normal and so
friendly. To be honest, I never met any "rock 'n roll stars" being so
nice.
(From Frederic
Ralet, France): I saw Yngwie live on stage in Paris last
November and the show was f**ing great! A little bit too short, but powerful.
Maybe Yngwie was ill, because we saw a doctor come in the theatre. I met the
band after the show, and they were all very cool. I think Mike is the best
singer in the band since Jeff Scott Soto. And a big pleasure it was to hear
Yngwie play an Alcatrazz song ("Too Young to Die"). It was like a dream come
true!
(From Dimitrios
Kolios, Greece): I was on the front row, a breath from
Yngwie. The show was sold out! The band started with "Vengeance" and "No Love
Lost." The set list was very powerful (songs from The Seventh Sign, Magnum
Opus, plus instrumentals from Rising Force, two songs from Marching Out, and
Alcatrazz's "Too Young to Die")! When Yngwie introduced the band, I shouted
"MATS!" and he saw me. And Michael Vescera is one of Yngwie's best frontmen.
The audience was crazy about Yngwie and shouted "Yngwie!' all night. Another
highlight was his solo singing in a blues number. For 1 hour and 45 minutes
Yngwie was the King in Athens!
(From Avelino S.
Andrade, Portugal): I went to your concert in Lisbon. It
was the best ever, and I took my wife and she loved it! Nobody else can play as
you do; your technique, your relaxed yet aggressive style, all make you the
best in the world. I loved your dialogue with the band, even though you were
the "star," you gave a chance to all the members to shine on the stage. Michael
Vescera makes a great vocalist. I have never seen you live or on video before,
so I loved your presence on stage.
(From Alonso
Azcarate, Spain): Thanks to Yngwie and the band for the
warm and friendly evening I passed with them during the Madrid gig. They really
treated me as a good friend. For the people who criticize Yngwie personally or
musically, they should talk to him and hear his music without prejudgements. I
am sure they will find out he is an excellent person and his music is only
surpassed by Yngwie himself.
(From Christian
Kasel, Germany): I saw Yngwie play in Munich at the Heavy
Metal holiday mini-festival on Dec. 16. There were five bands, including Yngwie
and Saxon. It was held at the old airport terminal and the sound was really
bad. Yngwie's set was about 40 minutes and was very good, but I couldn't hear
him as well as I wanted because of the bad PA system. I was sad he had to play
in such bad conditions because he is one of the best guitar players in the
world! By the way, I bought a Malmsteen Signature American Strat in vintage
white with maple neck. It was my Christmas present and I LOVE this
guitar! |
