ATTACK! Tour, USA
- March/April 2004
April 10, Tampa Florida, The Masquerade From James Desruisseaux: I just am in awe as to this man's ability and show stopping performance that I just witnessed. Over 2 hours of pure rock and roll. The sound was so perfectly set up with clarity to distinguish vocals yet power so thick you need a chain saw to cut it. Everyone was on their game, and the choice of songs was good too, but Doogie's vocals along with Yngwie's roots truly shined during the song BURN. Man, this guy knows how to mix it up and never leave a stone unturned. My 5 year old daughter has been introduced to Yngwie after the Ruth Eckerd Show [G3 in Clearwater, FL] and seeing him on VH1.com Metal Mania; she loves him and falls asleep every night to Baroque and Rolling....who needs sheep to count when there is Yngwie in the CD player. Once again after the show in Clearwater, FL my daughter had asked me to have a picture of her holding her Attack CD autographed for her, but since the local shops couldn't process my digital pic quick enough for the show she had to settle for the Attack CD to be autographed. Once again if you can pass along the thanks to all the band members who look beyond their stardom and status to sign for the fans I would appreciate it. Doogie, thanks for the autograph as well - to get the autograph was great, but for you to personalize it for her was even better. For what it's worth, THANKS YNGWIE! I can see you truly enjoy the music you make and appreciate the fans that listen and support you. You are an Artist'. From Adam Santucci: Hey The show last night was great. I saw Yngwie at the G3 show and he was amazing then, but Yngwie and his band outdid themselves last night. They played a blistering 2 1/2 hours. The set list was great, Ship of Fools, Baroque and Roll, Dreaming, and Deep Purple's Burn, which rocked, I'll see the light tonight, the national anthem, and His 2 trademark songs, Far Beyond the Sun and Black star. I took my brother-in-law Kyle to not only his first Yngwie concert, but it was his first rock concert... I think Yngwie popped his cherry! My Dad, my brother Matt, cousin Chris, and our friends Joel and Phil went and they all loved the show as well. Yngwie and the band were very into the audience and very gracious to everyone there. Yngwie had a big smile on his face the whole night as he was happy to be back in Florida. It was very cool to see Rudy up there playing... he did an awesome job. The whole band Rocked. See ya. Adam Santucci FROM JIM NOBLES: REALLY ENJOYED SEEING YNGWIE AGAIN FOR MY 16TH TIME! HOUSE WAS PACKED AND AFTER 30 MIN OF A TAMPA METAL BAND WITH A TERRIBLE SINGER (JUST SCREAMED IN AN ANTI-MUSIC UNMELODIC EVILNESS), GEORGE LYNCH CAME OUT FOR A GREAT SET. LIKED SEEING HIM PLAY HIS SKULL AND BONES GUITAR. THE BASSIST HAD AN 8-STRING BASS JUST LIKE I SAW JOHN PAUL JONES (EX-ZEP)PLAY AT FRANKIE'S PATIO JUST DOWN THE STREET AWHILE BACK. YNGWIE TOOK THE STAGE AT 10:40 AND PLAYED A NICE LONG SET WHICH ENDED RIGHT PAST 1 A.M.AFTER A SOMEWHAT SLOPPY START ON RISING FORCE WITH HIS TYPICAL POSING AND TAKING THE GUITAR OFF CONSTANTLY PLUS PAUSING FOR A GULP OF BEER IN MID-SONG, HE STARTED REALLY SHOWING HOW PROFESSIONAL AND HARD WORKING HE REALLY IS. IMPOSSIBLE BARRAGE OF LIGHTNING FAST ARPEGGIOS AND SCALES FILLED THE NITE WITH THE BULK OF SONGS BEING FROM "ATTACK" PLUS A FEW OLDIES.HAVEN'T HEARD HIM DO DREAMING FROM ODYSSEY SINCE THE '88 TOUR WHICH WAS COOL. HE HAS PLAYED SNIPPETS OF IT OVER THE YEARS DURING THE 'SOLO' WHEN THE GROUP LEAVES THE STAGE. YOU CAN TELL HE LIKES IT, UNLIKE "HEAVEN TONIGHT"! GREAT TO HEAR HIM PLAY DP's 'BURN' WITH DOOGIE BELTING IT OUT. HE'S A GREAT SINGER. ALWAYS LOVED HIS WORK ON RAINBOW'S LAST CD. RUDY WAS GREAT TO SEE ON BASS.HE WAS ONE OF THE FEW GUYS NOT TO TAKE HIS OWN SOLO DURING THE SHOW, BUT HE'S ALWAYS BEEN A BARE BONES PLAYER, NEVER ONE TO OVERPLAY OR STRIVE FOR THE GRAND 'TECHNICAL GESTURE. I LIKED HIM BETTER THAN THE WIZARDRY OF COVEN'S TENURE WHICH ADDED TOO MANY NOTES TO YJM REPERTOIRE WHICH IS ALREADY TOO TOP-HEAVY IN NOTES FOR MANY PEOPLE'S TASTE. LUCKILY STILL, A LOT OF US FANS STILL SEE MAESTRO'S LIGHT! I MUST HAVE BEEN THE LUCKIEST DURING HIS PICK TOSS TOO! HE FLUNG ONE SO FAST AND I GRABBED IT WITH TWO FINGERS-BAMM! NO BOBBLE OR NOTHING. ALL AROUND ME THE CROWD HIT THE FLOOR LOOKING FOR IT AND I TAPPED A FEW ON THE SHOULDER SPORTING THE PRIZE. AN AMAZING GRAB! THANKS AGAIN YNGWIE FOR A CLASS "A" TOUR IN WHICH YOU SPARED NO EXPENSE WITHIN YOUR MEANS. HOPE TO SEE THE 'ATTACK' OVERSEAS TOUR CD RELEASED ON IMPORT AS MENTIONED ALSO. US FANS WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR YOU AND WE HOPE VICE-VERSA. GOD BLESS YA. From Jose Fuentes: I had the pleasure of seeing Yngwie perform at the Masquerade nightclub in Tampa Florida. I've been a fan for many years but last night was the best performance I have seen from Yngwie. The man is super-human! His technique was clean and flawless most of the time. I was really impressed by the tone and clarity of his guitar, I could hear each note. The set was about 2 hours! During the show, I was thinking what Steve Vai said about Yngwie that he is the elite of the elite and it's true. Thanks for the show Yngwie, keep it up! April 9, Atlanta, Georgia, Masquerade From Paul: The Yngwie Malmsteen concert last night at the Masquerade in Atlanta was in one of many words stupendous! I've seen Malmsteen live 6 times before 1st when he opened up for Iron Maiden at the Omni in Jan. 1987. This was his best performance yet and the sound mixing was great except for a couple of tech. difficulties at the very beginning. The crowd was really enthusiastic clapping and cheering hard.I have to say that George Lynch had a very good performance opening for Yngwie. Yngwie's performance was tremendous and better than the Masquerade tour in 2000! He opened up with "Rising Force", and followed with "Rise Up", "Razor Eater", "Ship of Fools", "Stronghold", "Baroque and Roll","Trilogy", "Valhalla", "In the Name of God" ,"Dreaming", "Adagio-Far Beyond the Sun" in no particular order. His encore of songs like "I Am a Viking",Black Star", "I'll See the Light Tonight" we're killer! I was spent at the end of the show and I was yelling "Yngwie Rules", "You Rock" towards the end. Yngwie's guitar playing throughout was simply amazing and his acoustic solo was remarkable once again. The concert was so much fun and Doogie did a very good job singing and I have to agree with other fans that say he's his best vocalist so far. Rudy Sarzo was awesome on Bass and I always liked him since Quiet Riot. Patrick on drums was very good too along with Joakim on keyboards. Doogie worked the audience very well and I found him to be quite humorous and I dig the Irish accent. He talked about Yngwie's acoustic guitar and hoping that he would get it at the end of the tour and selling it on E bay for example! I took pics as well and used a flash for better results but I need to get a digital camera since I only had 6 exposures for Yngwie's concert. Thanks to Yngwie and his band for such a great performance and I can't emphasize great enough! Simply marvelous! I can't wait to see him next time and 4 years is too long not see him live in concert! Last but not least thank you Anne for doing such a good job with Yngwie.org. Sincerely, Paul April 6, Allentown, PA, Crocodile Rock From Adolph: I JUST WANTED TO SAY HOW PLEASED I WAS TO SEE A LIVING LEGEND IN SUCH A SMALL ARENA.THANKS SO MUCH TO ALL THE BAND - SEE YA NEXT TIME! April 4, Clifton Park, NY, Northern Lights From From jmarcel8: I saw Yngwie last night in Clifton Park NY last night, the show was really great!I drove from New Hampshire which was about a 3 1/2 hr. trip but it was worth it. I got to the club early and watched about 30-40 min. on the band's soundcheck which was very cool. They were working out some new song it sounded, I've never heard it and I believe I have everything Yngwie has ever released. It sounded very cool, very melodic and a little different riffing than some of his other stuff. To make it short, the show absolutely rocked and Yngwie was amazing as everytime I've seen him! Anne there was a very cool violin concerto CD played before Yngwie went on, would you happen to know what it was,I'm assuming Yngwie chose it. [webmaster's note: The piece was from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi.] From Clark Howell: I traveled three hours from New Haven, CT, to see Yngwie at Northern Lights in Albany, NY. This was my 11th time seeing Yngwie, dating back to 1984. Far and away, this was the most magical and awesome show of all; I feel so proud and fortunate to have been in the crowd for a very very special night. Special memories I will cherish forever: * Incredible, killer sound, the best mix I have ever heard at an Yngwie live show. Everything was clear, crisp and powerful, from Yngwie's glorious 7 Marshall double stacks in stereo, Patrik's massive drums, Rudy's amazingly clean and sweet bass tones, Joakim's deliciously balanced keys, on down to Doogie's blazing vocals. First time I can truly say the mix was spot on perfect, right from the very first note. * Meeting Patrik Johannsen before the show was a thrill, he was extremely gracious! * Over two HOURS of great music, including many extended and spontaneous versions of songs. The last couple of years, I felt like I could predict what Yngwie would play next, but not this time; he was at the peak of creative invention. The guys in the band clearly noticed it, too, because they all stuck around for every single guitar solo and looked on with wonder. Usually the band members try to disappear and catch a break during "down time", but not last night! * The songs from Attack!! go over magnificently live. Especially "In the Name of God" (they were all great, but this didn't used to be one of my favorite studio tracks, and after seeing it live I've changed my mind!) * Yngwie introduced "Ship of Fools" as a song that he "Wrote about the people who aren't here on stage with us tonight," something I deeply appreciated after suffering through the immature internet rants by certain ex-Rising Force members associated with the WTEAW tour. For the record, this current lineup plays circles around any previous Malmsteen fivesome. * The return of classical music during the downtime between warmup bands and headliner. Vivaldi's Four Seasons is much more enjoyable than the lame garbage that DJ's usually play between acts. * During a very quiet and intricate jam, a female member of the audience standing next to me shouted for Rudy Sarzo's attention, "Rudy! Rudy!" Rudy didn't pay her any mind, but to my complete astonishment, Yngwie heard her and then copied her call EXACTLY note-for-note on the guitar, with the exact same phrasing and tone. He was musically talking with the audience, on a most direct level. I was floored. * Complete and total professionalism on the part of all of the band members throughout the evening, in spite of some incredibly attractive blond dancers who tried unsuccessfully to divert attention by baring their breasts to the audience over and over. * Doogie White is a perfect presence, he carries the dialogue between songs better than any vocalist I have seen perform with Yngwie. He weaves the song lyrics into his introductions, tells stories, holds the crowds attention, and never once tries to upstage Malmsteen. Doogie is obviously talented, but his sincerity and ability to "get real" with the crowd makes him special. No comparison, he is easily the best ever Malmsteen vocalist, and I hope he can stay on for as many tours as he can. Thank you, Doogie! * Very enthusiastic reception from the packed club, who were also polite and responsible. I talked to many audience members, and it was great to see so many younger listeners as well as people like me who have been Yngwie fans for over twenty years. Most of the people I met had not seen Yngwie live before, although they were familiar with his albums and songs. This made for an electrifying sensation, because expectations were running high, but no one even suspected how great a show they were about to see. Yngwie made new converts out of the ENTIRE packed club. When the two and a half hour show finally came to a close at 1:00 AM, the parking lot was still filled to the gills. Nobody went home early, and the expressions of gratitude, wonder, and awe on the faces of the people leaving the club were priceless. * No smoking laws are in effect, and wow, what a difference this makes! For the first time ever, I didn't have to spend hours trapped in a cloud of toxic poison, and the air for my lungs was as healthy as the beautiful sounds for my ears. Whew, I thought this would be a short letter, but I'm still so pumped up from last night's show, I couldn't stop typing. Ah well, thank you Anne, Yngwie, April, Rudy, Doogie, Patrik, and Joakim, you will always be the most special people in the world to me! ---Clark in Connecticut April 3, Baltimore, Maryland, The Thunderdome From David Moore: This was my second time seeing Yngwie, the first being the G3 show in West Palm Beach Florida. This show put his G3 set to shame! Vai and Satch are THE most overrated players, and I was upset Yngwie only played for about 30 minutes. So needless to say, his 2 hour plus set was a great change. I went to see George do a clinic earlier that day, and he said that it was his second clinic ever. That was apparent. His backing tracks were set at 10, and his amp was turned up to maybe 4. I left after 10 minutes, because he started complaining about how he's been promised a headlining tour for 10 years, and he has to support Yngwie. He then threw in some jibes about Yngwie, and that was enough. The Show- I'm 16, and was definetely the youngest person there. George seemed to be in quicksand, and didn't move once the entire show. Something on the floor must have been pretty interesting, because he never looked up. The songs were okay, but it wasn't my thing. George left, and one of the coolest things happened: No Shit In Between Sets! They played classical music between George and Yngwie, and it was such a relief from the mindnumbing crap they usually play. Anyway, it took a while for Yngwie to come on, but it was all worth it. In response to the George Lynch Message Board, Yngwie opened up with "Ship of Fools" saying it was dedicated directly to the people that just got off stage! I had a good laugh, and proceeded to enjoy the rest of the show immensely. Seeing Yngwie is such an inspiration, because the next day, I must have practiced for about 23 hours non-stop. Yngwie put on the best show ever. No complaints whatsoever. From Pam Picciotta: We got a late start on Saturday night and ended up missing most of George Lynchs set. People were still pouring into the club and it sold completely out. The Thunderdome is a very small club and only holds 750 people. People were being turned away at the door and they werent very happy about it! Thankfully we already had our tickets. We got our guest passes and went and found April. We were standing to the right side of the stage and I could hear much clearer. The sound was excellent in this small club. I think it was due to the high ceilings and the fact that Yngwie was only using six amps instead of all ten he used the night before. His performance was fantastic. His playing was flawless. It was amusing to see jaws drop in awe. Yngwie and Doogie both had to warn the crowd to stop stealing picks from his mike stand. At one point Yngwie threatened to stop playing if they didnt leave the picks and mike stand alone. The set list was pretty much the same as the night before. Mostly consisting of material from ATTACK!! Stronghold, Valhalla, Ship of Fools, In The Name of God, and Attack being among my favorites. Dreaming was done beautifully. I love to hear Yngwie play his acoustic guitar. After the show we went to the bus and met up with Steve and Greta, the other "Meet & Greet" contest winners. They are a very nice couple and were excited to meet Yngwie. I have met Yngwie several times before so I was pretty calm about the whole thing. None the less, I was very grateful for winning the passes and being able to spend time on the bus with Yngwie, April, Rudy and Joakim. Even though they were road weary and exhausted, they were very gracious. Yngwie embraced us with enthusiasm and was in a very talkative mood. We all got some pictures taken with Yngwie. I even got one with April, Yngwie and me in it as well. We conversed for a while and had a wonderful time. We knew that Yngwie, April and the rest of the band were totally exhausted after playing five nights in a row without a break. We didnt want to wear out our welcome so we said our goodbyes and Yngwie told me hed see me next time around. The only way Id ever miss a Malmsteen show in my area, is if I were in a body bag!! Steve, Greta, my friend Tina and I hung out a while and talked a little bit before parting ways. I sure hope we get to meet up with them again at another Yngwie show. It would be cool to hang out with them again. Much thanks and appreciation to Yngwie and April for their hospitality! It was an experience I will never forget! April 2, Springfield, Virginia, JAXX From Pam Picciotta: Sorry it has taken me so long to write this set of reviews. It has taken me a couple of days to recuperate from a FANTASTIC weekend! My best friend and I were fortunate enough to see Yngwie perform two nights in a row, so we made a weekend road trip out of it. And on top of that, I was lucky enough to be one of the winners of the "Meet & Greet" Contest for the Baltimore show at the Thunderdome on Saturday night. We got to Jaxx Nightclub in Springfield, VA around 8:00 p.m. and there was still a line around the building to get in. The place was packed! George Lynch was all ready well into his set by the time we finally made it through the door. He and his band sounded pretty good, except I wasnt too impressed with his singer. George himself sounded great. But as others have said, and I have to agree, he doesnt have much stage presence. I saw him with Dokken way back when, and he was more animated back then. After Georges set was over, Vivaldis Four Seasons filled the room. It was just the calm before the storm! Then the lights dimmed, the smoke filled the room and Yngwies guitar came crashing into the darkness. The fury had begun and the crowd went wild! Half way during the show, my friend and I made our way up to the right side of the stage. A very nice guy let us in front of him because I am so short and couldnt see. I was wedged between the speaker and the railing at the front of the stage. At one point Yngwie went to grind the neck of his guitar against the speaker and my hand just happened to be in the way. My finger got smashed in the process. It hurt like hell, but I quickly got over it! Yngwies set pretty much consisted of the same as the previous shows. His sound was very good, although I couldnt really tell since I had earplugs in my ears and was standing right next to a stack of speakers. Jaxx is a small club with a low ceiling and the acoustics have never been very good in that building. I have heard Yngwie play there several times before, and I must say that his sound that night was the best that I have heard from him at this particular club. Doogies vocals are amazing! I think he is the best singer that Yngwie has had in a very long time. Yngwie and Doogie did a little exchange between them with Yngwie playing a couple of notes on his guitar and Doogie copying them perfectly. It was hard to decipher which was the guitar and which was Doogies voice. At one point Doogie did a little "Nursery Rhyme Rap" bit that was quite amusing!! Rudy, Patrick, Joakim and Doogie all seem like a very good match. The ATTACK!! songs came across very well live. It was a great performance by the whole band, even though a few cues where missed. Yngwie was really enjoying himself and it showed. He did a wonderful medley at the end consisting of some of his older material. It was great to see some of the younger crowd getting into Yngwies music. After the show, we ran into April and briefly spoke to her for a moment. She was in a hurry and told me shed see us the following night. We also got to talk to both Doogie and Joakim. They both were very nice. They hung out in the front bar after the show and played a couple games of pool with some of the fans. To sum it all up, it was a very good show. Yngwie played his heart out, as usual, giving his all to his fans. Everyone I talked to said they got their money's worth. April 1, Sayreville, New Jersey, Starland Ballroom From Chris: My wife and I went to see Yngwie at The Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey last night. What a show. I've seen Yngwie about ten times now, and this was easily the best show I've seen from him. We were in the front row, right near Yngwie's mike. After the two local opening acts, George Lynch took the stage. He did a good show, about 40 minutes. At the end of his last song of the night, for some reason he handed his skeleton guitar (the one from the Dream Warriors video) to me and another guy in the front row. We assumed his was just going to have us hold it and he'd tap it or something...but he just walked away. We didn't know what to do...did he just give us his guitar? But then his tech came and took it from us. Oh well. But then Yngwie took the stage and gave the best performance I've seen from him in years. The Starland Ballroom is a much better venue for him then I'm used to seeing him at. He would always play at the Birch Hill in the past, but this place has a much better stage, lighting, etc. Even Doogie commented that this place had the best lights of anywhere they've played. Anyway, Yngwie played a great set. He played most of the Attack!! album and mixed in plenty of old favorites as well. I've heard that he hasn't been playing "Black Star" lately, but he did play about half of it late in the set. He also played both "I Am A Viking" and "I'll See The Light Tonight" as well as the more usual standards like "You Don't Remember" and "Dreaming". He played for almost two and a half hours. It was a fantastic performance. After the show, about 10 of us waited outside in the rain by his bus to try to talk to him. We were told that he would take items on the bus to sign, but that we couldn't get any time with him. I understand he played a long set, so I don't blame him....but it would have been nice to talk to him and tell him that my wife and I met at his show during the Alchemy tour back in '99. I really wanted to thank him, not only for the music he's given us over the years, but to thank him for being responsible for me meeting my wife. But like I said, I do not blame him. At least I got my Fire & Ice poster signed (which is being framed right now). He gave his all during that performance and was phenomenal. All in all, it was a fantastic night!!!! I hope he comes around again very soon. March 31, Long Island, New York, Mulcahy's From Mike: It was at Mulcahy's club in Long Island, March 31, where i saw Yngwie for the 4th time and boy did he blow everyone away! There first was this opening band "J.Rad" with two kids both 14 years old. One was on drums and the other on guitar. And the kids were shredding up the place! Quite another child prodigy if you ask me. George Lynch came on. He was also waling away but his volume was kinda low. Then Yngwie himself came on and opened up the show with "Rising Force" but i couldnt see him for the first 30 minutes because of a bouncer standing in the way i wanted to kill him. "Ship of Fools" was next in which he poured his heart into the solo (I had front row). "Rise Up" came on next and that was so great there was so much energy coming from the band! Then "Stronghold" came on. I was surprised when he then played "Bad Reputation" in which Yngwie said he dedicated to the song to himself and chuckled about it. Dougie's voice really stood out in that song. Then Yngwie did one of his classicly influenced solos on electric. He must have done about 3 seperate electric solos throughout the whole. it was just Yngwie playing pure Yngwie, really inventive. Then he did "Baroque and Roll". I think then he got out the "flying ovation" and did a good 10 minute peice, with that Bach song he reinvented (not sure of the name, the one that Yngwie's song "Air" is based on). The jaw dropping acoustic performance somehow molded into "Dreaming". After that they played "In the Name of God" which is a masterpeice in itself. Yngwie said "let's see if you guys remember this one and it was "You dont remember, I'll never forget" which featured Dougie in which he was hitting these high notes that I didnt think he was capable of. The man can sing!!! Then Yngwie was flowing by himself on his strat for another good 5 minutes in which that turned into the "Trilogy Suite" with the "Krakatau" part in it like the live in Leningrad concert. Yoakim then had the chance to shine with his solo which was excellent. The drummer had his turn too. He was really good. They also played the "Adagio-Far Beyond the Sun" as usual. They went backstage for about 5 minutes an the encore came back with "Razor Eator", "Valhalla". Dougie was saying how some people believe in heaven or hell, but the vikings believe in the Valhalla!!!! They ended the night with "I'll See the Light Tonight". I was kinda disappointed they didnt play "Black Star" for a change. The entire show much energy filled. Yngwie has been playing alot of his classic songs for a real long time now and every time he does it live theres always new fills, licks, everything. Yngwie will never go dry he always has great new ideas. Stranding for 6 hours sucked but it was worth it. Thank you Yngwie and the Rising Force for making it more than my $15 worth! Mike March 30, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Dragonfly From Matt: The show at the DragonFly nightclub in Harrisburg, PA on March 30 was the best show I have ever heard or seen. The guitar playing display and showmanship of Yngwie was amazing. This venue was so much better than an arena. To witness this display at such a close proximity to Yngwie was better than watching a DVD. This show exceeded my expectations. I have been a fan of Yngwie since the mid 1980s. In 1991 when my son was born, I gave him the middle name of Yngwie. Yes, he gets lots of questions about the Y middle initial. Unfortunately, my son was not able to attend the show at the DragonFly because it was an over 21 years of age show. I guess we will have to wait until the next tour. From Travis: DRAGONFLY, HARRISBURG My fiance', best pal, and myself saw Malmsteen for the first time ever at the Dragonfly. I've listened, collected, watched, you name it.. Yngwie since i was very very young. The first band was pretty good as i eagerly awaited Yngwies performance. I was right on the left side of the stage in the front near the speakers. All of a sudden this array of brilliantly played neoclassical music belted threw the speakers. My eyes lit up like a Christmas tree as Yngwie came on stage. I was overwhelmed, frozen with excitement! words can't explain how i felt. I enjoyed the entire show immensely. I was in the back near the merchandise and there was April!!! It took me awhile but i walked up and made an ass out of myself. I got her autograph, the keyboard players, the singers, and Malmsteen. Outside we waited and waited and talked to the singer for a bit. He was extremely nice. My friend said wheres yer' bus!!!!! Doogie said right theres my fuckin' bus!!!! It was right beside us. He got a laugh out of it. We got one of Malmsteens pics, plenty of pictures and my fiance' framed it. Yngwie even signed my fire & ice tape cover. I wish i could of talked to Yngwie but perhaps he was in a hurry. He walked out right passed us and went onto the bus. My ears rang for 3 days afterwards lol.... If Yngwie ever comes around here again i'll be in heaven. In ending words..im not good with words but it meant the world to me. Your greatest of all greatest fans ever in the world!! Travis, Stephanie, & Shawn (peco) From JORMA Z. LUCAS: I SAW MR. MALMSTEEN AND THE GANG LAST NIGHT AT THE DRAGONFLY CLUB IN HARRISBURG, PA. HE HASN'T PLAYED HERE SINCE THE FIRE & ICE TOUR... TOO LONG OF A WAIT! EVERYONE WAS SUPERB!! ITS THE FIRST TIME IN MANY YEARS I'VE SEEN A BAND FULL OF VIRTUOSO'S! EVERYONE HAD A SOLO EXCEPT MR. SARZO, BUT HE GOT TO SHOW HIS CHOPS ALL NIGHT! ITS A SHAME HE NEVER GOT TO SHOW HIS TALENT LIKE HE DOES WITH YNGWIE... WHAT A NATURAL! MR. SVALBERG AND MR. JOHANNSON DISPLAYED EXCEPTIONAL TALENT DURING THEIR SOLO'S. IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS BAND, YOU MUST CHECK IT OUT. ALL HAD GREAT ENERGY AND DOOGIE HAS AN OUTSTANDING RANGE WITH A GREAT VIBRATO TO HIS VOICE. HE DOESNT HAVE THAT ANNOYING "SCREAMING METAL" VOICE LIKE A FEW OF YNGWIE'S PREVIOUS SINGERS. I WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YNGWIE'S MICROPHONE STAND AND GOT TO WITNESS HIS WIZARDY A FOOT AWAY. HE'S THE BEST OF THE BEST, NO ONE CAN PLAY THAT WELL WITH A FEEL ONLY HE CAN ACCOMPLISH. THANKS FOR COMING TO HARRISBURG GUYS, WE ALL HAD A BLAST. OH YEAH, AND THANKS FOR THE SETLIST DOOGIE!March 27, Cleveland, Ohio, Peabody's Night Club From Behshad & Angelina: WOW! This was my 6th time to see Yngwie Live and everytime I see him I am blown away by his great performance, his musical skills and mostly this time his great line up! The sound was great and LOUD! I was upfront and Yngwie even grabbed my hand in middle of a solo and shook it,, Same thing with Doogie, who is a great singer and he seems to have such great passion for Yngwie's music,,,, Doogie didnt seem like he was doing this as a job/project! His stage presence and whole performance was spiritual just like Yngwie! and the rest of the band for that matter! I got a chance to talk to Doogie after the show, and also talked to Patrick and Jocke! Great guys all of them!! Also I was lucky to be able to catch April Malmsteen and have her take my cd booklets to Mr Malmsteen to sign for me! Thanks YNGWIE!!! GREAT SHOW!! HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOON!!! Also thanks to Doogie and the rest of the band!!! Sorry Patrick for surprising you by speaking Swedish to you man! GREAT SHOW!! 5 out of 5 !!!! ONLY THING MISSING : Black Star March 25, Flint, Michigan, Purple Moon Night Club From ACK: Bottom line........best concert I have ever attended. This was the first big name gig to come to Flint since Deep Purple in '85, and I was only six then, so basically before my time. Yngwie's performance was over the top. He really gets into it, and feeds off the fans. The down side was I couldn't get any of my buddies to attend the show (they don't appreciate real music) Oh well, their loss. My girlfriend went with me, and I was a little reluctant because I felt she wouldn't have a good time. I was soo wrong! She stood up and cheered her head off the whole show, and has never even heard of Yngwie before! George Lynch was decent too, but his band just couldn't get the sound right. I'm not sure what the problem was, but it defiantly got corrected by the time Malmsteen got on stage. I'm hoping and praying that true guitar driven rock and roll is coming back. I'm thinking since Yngwie would actually come to an industrial shit hole/rap rock town like Flint, that this is a sign of great things to come, and people are hungry for melodic music again. I feel special to have experienced just a show of musicianship, and it will be a memory I will not soon forget - ACK From Al Pais: We drank with the "Guitar Gods," singin' their songs, we raised our cups in Valhalla (on this night anyway also known as Flint, Michigan!)....Yngwie and George both ripped it up, Yngwie was a wildman, Patrick brought the thunder, Yaokim's key-solo harkened back to the Rainbow w/Dio days, Rudy brought his smile and good steadiness, and Dougie was da man! This midsize club made more noise than maybe at the G3 show! Another awesome show!....here's just a couple of pics, more later! ~ Screamin' Al! March 24, Chicago, Illinois, Joe's From J. D. Won: As I said in my review for the G3 show "I can't Wait" to see Yngwie on the Attack Tour. Fortunately, I only had to wait 6 months. When Yngwie comes to Chicago he'd usually play at the House of Blues but this time he played Joe's Bar. Unlike HOB, cameras were permitted at Joe's so I was able to take photos (some of which have already been posted on the site). In regards to the opening act (Lynch Mob) I was looking forward to checking them out. George was lined up with some great musicians for the tour like Marten Anderson (Lizzy Borden) on bass and Jeff Martin (Racer X, Badlands) on drums. They put on a good show despite a bunch of sound problems during the set (the bass and the vocals kept on crapping out a number of times). I'd like to check them out again if they decide to do another tour on their own. After Lynch Mob finished their set, the crew began getting things ready for Yngwie. After the Four Seasons played, Yngwie and his entourage assembled at the side of the stage to prepare for the onslaught that was about to happen. After Yngwie warmed up with a few licks and the intro to Voodoo Chile, the first chord of Rising Force played signaling the return of the "Young Viking Chief". Yngwie and Co blazed through most of Attack!! along with some of his classics like Dreaming (Tell Me) and You Don't Remember I'll Never Forget. Unlike Lynch Mob, the sound system acted up only once (during Rise Up). As always, Yngwie was playing like never before (FLAWLESS). Patrik was insane with his jackhammer style of drumming throughtout the whole show, Joakim blazed and Rudy was dead on (WITHOUT A PICK). Dougie was probably the most animate vocalist I've seen on tour with Yngwie along with providing a well rounded voice for the tunes. The best part of it all, they (Rudy, Dougie, Patrik and Joakim) seemed to be extremely enthusiastic throughout the whole show. After the show, I bumped into Patrik and congratulated him a great show right before he headed to check out Happenin' Harry and the Haptones (featuring former Guns n Roses keyboardist Dizzy Reed) who was playing at the other side of Joe's. From Jeff Bond: I was at the show in Chicago last night. Unf#%cking believable!!! Despite some technical difficulties experienced by both Yngwie and George, they both put on a kick ass show. George tore it up. He definitely earned his name ... "Mr. Scary." I just wish he would have got into the show more. As for Yngwie, What can I say... Yngwie was on fire last night. I felt he was much better than his G3 debut, at the Riv. Yngwie put on a mouth dropping performance. His stage presence was awesome... His playing flawless. After watching Yngwie, I decided to turn my strat into a coffe table last night. After the show, I got to hang out with Doogie, Patrick and Joakim for the after-party jam. You guys are great! Patrick, my girlfriend will cherish your shoe forever. Thanks. Come back to Chicago soon! From Ed Mullins: I saw Yngwie last night at Joe's Bar in Chicago....and to say that I was blown away is an understatement! I've seen Yngwie before, but not in such an 'intimate' venue, and I must say it was the best I've seen of him. Both bands (George Lynch opened the show) were having problems with the sound, but to Yngwie and George's credit, they didn't let it show. Yngwie looked in great spirits - smiling, laughing, throwing the guitar around, throwing picks out, pointing at audience members - it was a superb performance. Yngwie's playing was flawless and dominating as usual. Everything was exciting to watch and be a part of. The band that he is touring with right now is the best (or, very close to the best) that I've seen him with. As far as the set list, I'm not sure of the order...but set lists posted for other shows seem pretty accurate. I only wish that I could follow this tour to a few more venues...I would GLADLY shell out any amount of money to see more. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! March 22, Denver, Colorado, Ogden Theatre From Warren J. Lordo: I got to the venue shortly before doors opened, and there was already a long line around the door of people waiting to get in to the show. I was really excited to be at the show, as the last time I had seen Yngwie live was during the "War to end all Wars" tour three years ago. I got in and went right up front toward the right side of the stage and waited patiently for the show to start. Jaded Poet went on first, and they were decent, but in my opinion nothing to ride home about. I had seen them open up for Cinderella once in Denver also, so they played a little bit and then left. George Lynch came on next, and apparently he was having major sound problems and thus was pretty grumpy. I have to say I really think he is a great guitar player, but his stage presence was pretty sad. The most of the time he was standing in the back by his amp acting like he almost wasn't on-stage. Ignoring most of his band members as well. Overall I thought he did do a good set though, a mix of Dokken and Lynch Mob songs. After they left they began to setup for Yngwie and I was stoked cause I was right up front on the right side where I knew Yngwie would most likely be. The lights went down the smoke began to flow, and the opening riff for Rising Force tore through the theatre. The lights went on and there was the maestro himself right in front of me, it was so sweet! They played through an AWESOME 2 and a half hour set. I couldn't believe how long they played, but I certainly wasn't complaining. I have to say this is the third time I have seen Yngwie live, and out of all the different bands I have seen him play with I really feel this one was the best. Doogie is an amazing vocalist, with in my opinion a great range and not only that but has a great personality as well, very good stage presence and kept the fans going. Rudy Sarzo was a Wonderful addition to the band. I have always had a high respect for him and he has played in many great bands, not only that but played alongside Randy Rhoads. Patrick although wasn't my favorite drummer Yngwie has had, did a great job and seemed to be enjoying himself. The new keyboardist was good too. I think they all seemed to really enjoy themselves playing together on stage and that I thought was awesome! Yngwie too really seemed to enjoy playing with them all too. The set consisted of a few older songs, instrumentals here and there, and a bunch of songs from "Attack" My biggest complaint was that Yngwie played only very old songs and brand new. I would have liked to here something of "Facing the Animal" or "Alchemy" but not much you can do I guess? He was promoting Attack so it made sense that he played a lot from that album. It somewhat saddened me however that even though the house was full, a lot of people didn't seem to know any of the new material. If you haven't gotten the new disc yet, go out and do so cause it is a GREAT album and I think it is one on Yngwie's better ones. The night was truly a show that I will remember for the rest of my life. I even caught one of Yngwies picks which was cool. So I say if you are thinking you may want to go and see Yngwie live, do so cause this tour and this band lineup work really well together and you won't regret it! March 20, Sacremento, California, The Roadhouse From Diran: There was an opening band that came on about 8:40 called Black Sun, i think and they were good. Then there was a break until about 10:00 or so and then the Rising Force came out starting out with Rising Force going into a couple of Attack songs including Stronghold, Rise Up and Ship of Fools, there was also In the Name of God in there somewhere. Then a couple of solos, and then came the announcment that the show would have to end early because of a curfew with 8 cops waiting outside. so the show ended about 11:15. After looking at the setlist we missed about 3 songs including Razor Eater and Valhala. Other than that it was a great show. The band was great but this was my first time seeing him live so i dont have previous shows to compare to. Fortunately, I got there early and actually watched them practice some songs and jam. I was able to get a pick during that time and got some signatures of Patrick and Doogie on my drumhead (I am a drummer unlike most of you). Yngwie also signed stuff after show from inside his tour bus so I was able to get his autograph on my drumhead. Too bad he couldnt come out to say hi. Thats about it for now. By the way the show was sold out and it was the first outdoor show at the Roadhouse during this year. From Mark Hoyt: I attended the Roadhouse show. I got there early and was able to secure my up front spot. I was actually surprised to see the show was outdoors in a semi residential neighborhood. The venue is a somewhat small nightclub. After waiting almost three hours for Yngwie to play, I was not disappointed as the show promised to be an excellent one. However at about 11:15 PM Doogie made an announcement that a curfew had been imposed and they would only have ten more minutes to play. As I stated earlier, the show was awesome. I have no complaints about sound or performance. However, I am upset with the fact I only got a one hour concert. I feel that someone somewhere in the planning of this evening's event failed to do their job properly. Perhaps Yngwie should have started his set at the announced 9:00 PM instead of 10:15 PM. Or they could have played inside the club where there is a stage also. My only gripe is that the show was too friggin short!!!! March 19, Concord, California, Cadillac Ranch From Sandra Banducci: For Yngwie fans, his concert on Friday was absolutely wonderful... This tour should not be missed by any hard core fans. If you want the full experience of "Yngwieism", this is the event. I firmly believe he enjoys the small crowds and being able to get up front and personal with them. A two and a half hour concert shows total dedication to his art, especially with the grueling schedule he is on. All the band members were excellent and performed with the same fury. This is one of the best I have seen him perform, and you can tell he loves and appreciates his fans. I was fortunate to win a "meet and greet" pass from the Fan Club, so after the show, his tour manager (very nice gentleman) made sure I had that opportunity. My thanks to the staff at the Cadillac Ranch for finding his manager for me! I was a bit lost. After a show like this, he was a bit tired, (who wouldn't be!!) but he still maintained his social graces and was very accommodating. I spent about ten minutes with him talking about classical music, and believe me, his face lights up when discussing his favorite music. It is important to realize that when you meet a man as artistic and talented as he is, respect him and he will do the same. All the former issues of his so called "bad reputation" probably stem from the way people treated him. Thank you to the fan club for this once in a lifetime opportunity! March 16, San Diego, California, 4th & B From Carole Johnson-Wolff: We saw Yngwie last night at 4th & B in San Diego. HE WAS AMAZING! I don't have words to describe how great the show was. He was in top form! I was really happy to see him that way, because I wasn't happy with his set during the G3 show. I felt like he was having an off-night that night, but I had a nagging thought in the back of my mind that maybe he was losing it and wasn't as good as he used to be. I'm happy to say that last night's show totally blew that thought out of my mind! He was better than ever! He played for 2 hours and 20 minutes, and he hardly missed a note that whole time. His band was great, Doogie was awesome, and Yngwie was a GOD. He played a lot of songs from Attack!, and not so many old ones, but when he played the older ones the crowd went wild. Actually, the crowd was wild all night. They gave Yngwie a very good reception. The show was Fantastic! George Lynch wasn't at this show, but I didn't miss him a bit! I figure, Yngwie's set was longer this way! My ears are still ringing and I'm starting my work day on 3 hours sleep, but I couldn't be happier! I hope you all enjoy the show as much as we did! March 14, Hollywood, California, Key Club From Pete Rihaczek: I first saw Yngwie with Alcatrazz in Santa Barbara some 20 years ago. I saw him at the G3 show at the Greek a few months back, but it was a real treat to seem him in a close-up venue like the Key Club. He completely kicked ass, and I was blown away. The thing that was most gratifying to me though was to see the obvious mutual appreciation that his fans have for him, and he has for his fans. He played his heart out, and it was obvious that he appreciated the support. I forget how many hours he played for, but he was still playing encores at close to 1AM. It feels great to support an artist who both deserves and appreciates the support, and I'll look forward to seeing him in L.A. again. From Aaron: aAll i could say is wow to describe the key club show, but then i would be lying. It was an amazing show!! yngwie had everybody's attention . i even got a chance to communicate with yngwie!!! yngwie started talking about it was like 20 yrs ago since he first came to la from sweden, and it was a surreal moment for him, and i'm not sure if i yelled out hot on your heels or jet to jet but yngwie heard me and said "not that surreal!"!! jeff soto even came out and sang i'll see the light tonight, which was awesome but he should of sang "hiroshima mon amour" too. dougie wasn't too good on that song but it was an awesome night. got a guitar pick and yngwie's sweaty towel. yngwie is god!!!! sincerly, aaron From John Harjo: Went to the fantastic George Lynch and Yngwie Malmsteen show Sunday at the Key Club in Hollywood on the Sunset Strip. Famed stomping grounds (when it was called Gazzaris) of all those 80s hard rock and metal bands and others such as Van Halen, I had not been to the venue since the summer of 1988. That evening I saw about 8 bands, all sounding alike and looking alike and for me that was it. But back to the present, After Lynchs gear was cleared off the stage, it seemed like it took an eternity for Yngwie to hit the stage ..Not sure what the problem was or if he was just pulling a Blackmore .but its a real drag to wait so long when everything is ready and these days it doesnt ever seem to happen except here it did. Seems like its just an ego thing to me .Maybe he wasnt warmed up yet. The band hit the stage with Rising Force of the Odyssey album and the sound was muddy at first but gradually cleared up. Doogie Whites vocals were in fine form throughout the night ..I kept thinking that it was almost seven years to the day that he was on the same stage with Ritchie Blackmore ..which I sadly missed because I was gigging on a cruise ship. Doogie never got hoarse the entire night and stayed faithful to all the vocalists he had to copy. The only one he couldnt pull off was the Graham Bonnet vocal on Alcatrazs Hiroshima .he simply had to use his falsetto and scream through the high parts and it didnt sound right. I dont even think Glenn Hughes or anybody else can sing GB vocals either so its no knock on Doogie that he struggled with the song. What can I say about Yngwie? Hes been a favorite of mine for over 20 years and this show was just simply probably the most technically proficient guitar playing Ive ever seen in my whole life except for Steve Vai or Eddie Van Halen! And even though he seems to play a million notes on every song, there were plenty of beautiful slow passages and melodies throughout the night .Yngwie can play slow too.The guys tone, sound and vibrato are just awesome. His stage presence too is commanding .and he looks like hes having fun and he looks right at the audience too alot ..not like floor starers Blackmore or George Lynch. The songs played throughout the night were from the albums Trilogy, Odyssey, Marching Out and one from the first Rising Force. The bulk of the set was from the excellent new album Attack. In retrospect its disappointing no songs from the excellent 1997 masterpiece Facing the Animal were heard or any other 90s albums for that matter, but the show was almost three hours long so it would have been impossible anyway. Walking in to the venue I spotted former Yngwie vocalist Jeff Scott Soto and his guitarist Howie Simon .Still, what a surprising thrill it was when Yngwie introduced Jeff to the audience as his old friend ..Doogie then said, Im gonna get my ass kicked now!. Then the band launched into the classic Ill See the Light Tonight. JSS was in fine form, hitting every note like the record .even though its been 19 years since it was done. This guy still has it! What a great performance from him! Doogie helped out on one of the verses and the choruses. I give thumbs up to the awesome Patrick Johanssen on drums I love his performance on Attack and he is a great drummer. The newboy Joakim Svalberg on keyboards is another technical virtuouso with loads of technique in the Swedish tradition. Another great thing about this show was seeing bassist Rudy Sarzo always one of my favorites and watching him play those fast bass lines with his fingers!!!! No pick man!!! This was the fourth band Ive seen him with. During most of Yngwies lengthy instrumentals, Sarzo just stood in the background watching with a smile on his face .Great to see him onboard. The only complaint I have about this show is that there was what seemed like the equivalent of an entire G3 segment .where Doogie probably had time to stroll down the street to the Rainbow for a full meal and some ales ..Seemed like about 30 minutes .I love the instrumental stuff but live for the vocal tunes .that segment was way too long. Still Yngwie and his band played for almost three hours so nothing was cut from the rest of the show! And another thing .Yngwie seems to have really mellowed out. Even though some arseholes in the front of the stage kept pulling his mic stand off the stage to get at the pics that were on it .and someone even pressed one of his pedals during a solo .Yngwie never went off about it. He did lecture the stupid losers that were doing this .that he was gonna come kick their ass. But honestly I fully expected him to unleash the fury and he never did (especially when his guitar roadie got his way once). He even played the last encores despite the fact that people kept pulling the mic stand off the stage and it was pissing him off. Being six feet tall, I almost always make eye contact with the band members I was in the front of the stage but on the side. So favorite moments were Doogie seeing me screaming and pointing the mic at me and also looking right at me and singing to me when he noticed me singing along to the pre-chorus of Valhalla word for word. Also gave a thumbs up to Patrick who gave me the same back. All in all a great night and a good time was had by all. Set List:
From Fran S. in Los Angeles: I have had the luxury of seeing Yngwie perform nearly every time he has played in the Los Angeles Area since 1983, when I first saw him in Alcatrazz at the Country Club in Reseda, Cal. It was his 20th birthday that night and everyone watched and listened to this 'kid' with their jaws hanging open. I attended the G3 concert at the Greek in Oct.2003. I felt Yngwie got the short end on the Sound that night. I don't think they even had the guitar going thru the PA, but just the amps alone. It was the worst of his shows in 21 years. BUT, last night I attended one of the most impressive shows yet at the Key Club in West Hollywood, Cal. He was in his rarest form. Rudi Sarzo is by far the best bass player ever to play with Yngwie. Rudi works out at my gym in the San Fernando Valley, and I will have to commend him on this. I always thought that the guy at my gym was just some dude who looked alot like Rudi ! ha! So, that was a funny discovery last night. Doogie sang everything perfect and really complimented all instruments...but Yngwie was flawless and the most tastefull ever.. Who was it who ever said he couldn't play the blues with feeling? It was simply amazing! I had to share this with you and perhaps Yngwie's fans....if you get a chance to see him on this tour, DO NOT PASS IT UP!!! March 13, Ventura, California, Ventura Theater From anomic_entropic: Caught the March 13th show at the Majestic Ventura Theater in CA. Three horrible opening bands rewarded our patience with an incredible performance by Yngwie and company. Set list is pretty much as described elsewhere, but being 15 feet away from 10 Marshall heads (I tend to think they were all used, too!) and one Yngwie J. Malmsteen was just amazing. I've seen a lot of guitarists in my time, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone so comfortable with their instrument. His playing is so technical and so effortless that it's unfair for one person to possess so much talent. My third time seeing his playing, and never a disappointment. To balance, the rest of the band was fine, but we were here to experience HIM. I walked away (though slightly deafer), with a tremendous respect for Doogie White. He's a small man with a huge voice! His range and vocal power were really impressive, and until the end of the show where Yngwie started to get chatty (refreshment- based), Doogie did a great job of between song/solo banter and crowd involvement. Absolutely a must-see on tour, and if you don't already own the entire catalog, you owe yourself the musical education. From Timothy: Saturday night I saw Yngwie's show at the Ventura Theater with 4 friends, my brother and my Dad and the place was packed (all my friends have to listen to Yngwie, thats all I play! Yngwie fanatic? Hell yes!). We all LOVED it. Yngwie played so long, so furiously and so loud: he put his heart into it and once again played what seemed like a special show just for us. The incredible sound Yngwie puts together with his band and crew was, last night, the best I've heard yet. Yngwies playing and Doogie's vocals were perfect. Yngwies Marshall wall and the double bass drums pummeled our bodies and shook the floor like the thunder of Thor! Yngwie's electrifying sweeps, arpeggios and speed struck us light lightening Valhalla on earth!!! They played at least 15 songs including Baroque and Roll, Vahalla, In the Name of God, Ship of fools, Trilogy Suite Opus 5, Far beyond the sun, Rising Force, Dreaming...not to mention a couple solo sessions and ending with Razor Eater and a solo. This was my fifth Yngwie show since 1998, he's truly awe inspiring. His stage presence is still one of a kind. I love Yngwie, man!!! Of course I wanted to get home to go play my guitar, but after I got Yngwies autograph (he must have been exhausted but he was still so cool enough to sign everything everyone brought out to his bus) I found I had a flat tire...I didn't even care! Nothing could ruin my night now, I saw YNGWIE put on an awesome show, got an autograph, and even got to say hi to April. Don't miss this tour!!!! March 12, Santa Ana, California, Galaxy Theater From Chris: A quick note about tonights show at the Galaxy in Santa Ana. This was easily the best I have ever seen Yngwie live. It was my 11th or 12th time, the first time being in the late 80s. I recently saw him twice on the G3 tour, and wasnt too happy with his unorganized set and level of inebriation during his set! However, this was totally different. He was an ANIMAL tonight on the guitar. Perfect tone, explosive playing, and a lot of energy. He played cleaner in his fast runs than I have seen or heard him. I didnt like the Attack studio album much, but he made the songs come to life live and I really like them now. Rudy was great in the band, hes a classic. I will be seeing Yngwie again next Tuesday in my home town of San Diego and I hope he can match this performance. Seriously, he was way over the top tonight, better than any video, CD, or live show I have seen of him in the past. From Scott Ungar: I was pretty excited to attend Yngwie's concert on March 12th at the Galaxy Theater. Since it has been a super long time since he has toured the USA for one of his albums. So you can imagine my surprise when the gig was over and I left pretty disappointed. The one thing that was missing was songs. Fan favorites! We got a steady dose of guitar solos and band jam sessions. And most of the songs, which I might add, weren't many, were from his latest CD Attack. Don't get me wrong, Yngwie Malmsteen is Brilliant!!! I always stand in awe of his ability, but this wasn't a fans show. We didn't get any of his older more popular songs, we got a night full of solos and jam sessions. I don't know about anyone else but I come to a concert to here new stuff and old popular stuff. Especially since Yngwie has been around for quit a while I expected to hear more songs and less of the other stuff. Again, I was in awe of his playing ability but left the show feeling cheated and not getting what I paid for. I have to add that before the show was over, about 1/4 of the crowd had left because of the lack of popular songs being played. Whoever reads this I would suggest that the song list include more fan favorites and less filler. I was really expecting to hear some good ol' Yngwie favorites and didn't get them. March 11, Tucson, Arizona, Rialto Theater From DJ : We just got back from Yngwie Malmsteen and George Lynch in Tucson Arizona at the Rialto Theatre. man it was so cool yngwie was so cool i got autographs from him... they made us hand stuff over to roadie's and he signed them in the bus and they brought them out but it was still cool we got a record album signed along with my T-shirt and ticket stub. props go out to Yngwie, Joakim, Patrick, and Doogie you guys rock man i loved you keyboard solo Joakin... and its crazy how Doogie works with all of you to make it that much better, and dam patrick you rock you shold of join the picture a long time hell ya!!! March 7, Dallas, Texas, Trees From Dave: Yngwie has always been one of my favorites and I had seen him a few years back in Phoenix and he was great. Yngwie is still amazing!!! Trees club in Dallas, TX was packed, hot and smoking and the 4th stop on the tour. He played lots of old stuff and a bunch of new stuff too. I bought the new CD at the club that night as I'd not heard it. The new ones they did included Razor Eater, Ship Of Fools, Attack!!, In The Name of God, Freedom Isn't Free, and Valhalla. I cant remember the names of all the old ones but they played one of my very favorites - You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget. It was faboulous!!! He also played the acoustic guitar on that one song.....I forget the name of it. He also did sort a blues tune and that's something I've not seen him do before. The band was great - Rudy on bass was fantastic, the singer Doogie was really good and that night was his birthday, the drummer and keyboards were excellent too. Yngwie is absolutely incredible - I wish I could see him again. March 6, San Antonio, Texas, The White Rabbit From arroyomusic: WOW! What a show. George Lynch played well. Only complaint, George never freaking moved from his spot of the stage! i was dissapointed that i didn't get to get a good glimpse of his playing. It was packed to the limit, and George should have been more considerate of those people at the other side of the stage. He literally did not move from the left side of the stage the entire set! This guy in back of me said "It really sounds good, too bad i can't see him." Now for Yngwie..I took my 12 year old brother to see Yngwie. Because of my listening tastes, my little bro has grown up hearing all these awesome guitarists since he was a baby. Vai (my bro's personal favorite), Al Dimeola, MacAlpine, Satriani, etc. and of course Yngwie. Anyways, Yngwie comes out and starts waling away. He really was fired up. He was playing with a vengeance. My bro turns and screams in my ear, "He knows he is bad (i.e. He knows he is good)!" It was really special for me, because all these years my bro has seen postors, pictures, articles, guitar lessons, CDs, so forth and so on, with Yngwie's picture. And when he saw him standing but maybe 15 feet away from him, it really was almost a surreal moment for him. It was funny, because into the 2nd song, my bro turns around and screams into my ear and says to me "You play just like him!" I started laughing and says to him "Well, what do you expect? After all he is my dad!" We had a good laugh and later on after the show we were saying that I was Yngwie's illegitimate, mexican-american love child..HAHAHA! Anyways, it was really an awesome night and I feel blessed that my bro was so inspired by the man that for so many years inspired me. It was definitely a bonding moment for us. anyways, the keyboardist is really talented. The drummer can play well, but he missed a couple of ques. The singer was itty-bitty, but he sang good! When the played "You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget" he was singing it and standing next to Yngwie while looking straight at him. It was a pretty gay looking scene. I mean, he is singing the chorus, and it looks as if he is serenading Yngwie. It was funny. All in all, it was great night, and I am soooooooooo glad that I was influenced by Yngwie. Even though I listen to other things, not shred only, i know for a fact that my guitar playing is where it is at today because of his influence on me. Technique can work in all contexts! Jazz, blues, classical, country, rock, metal...you name it! If I was influenced by Nirvana or something, I wouldn't be able to play anywhere near the level that I am at now. THANK GOD FOR YNGWIE!!! March 5, Houston, Texas, Verizon Wireless Theatre From the Houston Press: Review HERE. From albertthesixth: I have to say that this concert was one of the better concerts I have seen in years. George Lynch was O.K. but he did not seem to make much eye contact with the audience. Yngwie sure seemed like he was enjoying his audience as much as we enjoyed watching a real musician at work. I was able to watch the entire concert from the front row and was able to catch a thrown guitar pick. One thing I thought was kind of amusing during the show was on the song "Trilogy Suite Op 5", Yngwie started a pretty awesome solo at which time Rudy Sarzo just kind of stood there with his mouth hanging open. I guess he was as amazed as I was. It was a great show from the opening song "Rising Force" to the last encore of "I'll see the Light Tonight". I am looking forward to more music from this lineup and another tour. March 3, New Orleans, House of Blues From Donny Moses: Hello. just returned from Dallas. It's been a long time since i've been able to see Yngwie but the show was awesome! Forwarded some pictures but don't think they turned out well. use them if you like. Got to meet Yngwie's wife April. She was cool as could be. But didn't bother her too much. Just shook hands and went on my way to see the show. Rudy Sarzo really gelled with Yngwie. It was a great show and just wanted to send a review from the Dallas, Texas show. My brother even caught a pick and gave it to me! (thanx Matt!) From Akiko: Set list, New Orleans show.
