Yet another great Yngwie interview, this time with Classic Rock Revisited. Click HERE.

August 25, 2005

Modern Guitars Feature Editor Rick Landers sent us this link to a very cool interview with Yngwie recently: www.modernguitars.com

August 21, 2005

Well, things have quieted down a bit since the end of Yngwie's European Unleash the Fury Tour, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been busy. Recently he's been in New York, and on the phone, doing promotions for the USA release of UTF. Keep on the lookout for a bunch of magazine articles and features in the near future. Watch for a major feature story from Guitar Player, and pick up the October 2005 "Swedish Metal Invasion" issue of Revolver, where senior writer Joe Lalaina gets Yngwie to reveal his picks for the Best/Worst of movies, food, places to tour, and so on. Yngwie's choice of best movie may surprise you (no, it isn't Re-Animator).

Yes, Yngwie will be touring the USA, and yes, the band will be playing more songs from Unleash the Fury. No, we don't have the schedule yet, so please bookmark the Touring page where we will upload all the dates and venues as soon as we get them confirmed from the management!

We've made some updates to the Ask Yngwie! page HERE.

There's a new Yngwie forum you may want to check out: http://malmsteen.proboards50.com
Thanks to Behshad for the info!

Getting the Recognition He Deserves

In the April 2005 issue of Guitar Player, Yngwie's "Rising Force" debut is listed as one of the 101 Greatest Moments in Guitar History. Here's the write up... "You could make a case that Yngwie Malmsteen's moment came when he appeared in the spotlight column in the February '83 issue of GP. But the first time most guitarists heard him was on his solo debut the following year. And the tune that knocked them down was "Far Beyond the Sun." Shred just doesn't get any shreddier."

Amen to that! Thanks to Dave Moore for the tip.

Guitar One magazine has published a list of the "Top 10 Shred Albums of All Time" in its February 2005 issue. According to the magazine's editors, "arpeggio for arpeggio, these 10 albums strike the finest balance between tasteful melody (ahem) and 'no way did he just play that!'"

Guitar One's "Top 10 Shred Albums of All Time":

1. YNGWIE MALMSTEEN – "Rising Force"

2. Racer X – "Live: Extreme Volume"

3. Vinnie Moore – "Mind's Eyye"

4. Tony McAlpine - Edge of Insanity"

5. Steve Vai – "Passion and Warfare"

6. Joe Satriani – "Surfing With the Alien"

7. Shawn Lane – "Powers of Ten"

8.. Michael Lee Firkins – "Michael Lee Firkins"

9. Cacaphony – "Speed Metal Symphony"

10. Greg Howe – "Greg Howe"

Wanna Learn to Play Paganini?

The Virtuoso Issue of Guitar World (April 2005) has a lesson for you, straight from Yngwie himself! You'll also find a cool Tune-ups featurette on Yngwie's new album.

Introducing this issue, Editor-in-Chief Brad Tolinski says, "To help kick-start this trailblazing trend, Guitar World has devoted this special issue to these gutsy virtuosos. Vai, Zakk Wylde, Joe Satriani, Gary Moore and Yngwie Malmsteen are among the familiar faces featured. Even in the deepest, darkest days of grunge and nu-metal, these five master players kept the fret fires burning bright. It's only fitting that we pay homage to them and their new projects."

Touring Info

It seems like we have been inundated with requests from around the world for information about Yngwie's touring plans. So.... here's what we know so far. YES, he will go on tour in 2005 to promote his upcoming album (see news entry below). NO, I have no idea which countries he will visit or when the tour will begin (after the album is released, obviously).

The best thing you can do (which will save me having to e-mail each person who asks individually) is to BOOKMARK the Touring page and watch for updates. Thanks!
